Best stopover along highway 1 for a casual bite of fresh sea food. The market is always full with lot of guests from around the world and probably the local food locals. Ciopponi is the must try sea food pot that is so delicious and tasty. Yet, do expect unexpected guests, birds, for your food.

We alwasy stop here on our way to the Montery Peninsula. the seafood is fresh off the baot, vareity is endless. Prices are great, and you can have a beer or wine with lunch or dinner, the food is superb. We've had numerous meals there, never a bad one.

This is my 3rd time at Phils, but the first time crab season had not begun. I'm a Bay Area Calif. Native who visits Monterey a handful weekends yearly. Frozen dungness crab just isn't the same as the fresh stuff. Dungness season opens mid Nov, peaks wintertime and fades by early spring. Still Phil's other seafood is well worth the visit. We've enjoyed the steamed mussels and clams a couple of times now. The grilled artichokes are a local favorite. I agree to stay away from the fish and chips. There are so many other preparations that allow more appreciation of this local treasure. The outside tables were a little chilly for our taste and we ended up inside. BE SURE TO SECURE A TABLE RIGHT AWAY AND HAVE ONE PERSON WAIT IN LINE. THIS PLACE GETS CROWDED!

This was our fourth time eating here. It has been decent the other times. Our last lunch was disappointing, the fish was very oily and the batter was thick and devoid of flavour, not cheap for mediocre fish and chips. There are other nicer places in town to have fish and chips.

This is a place recommended by the locals and the Food channel for good reason. It is excellent. The place doubles as a fish market and looks like it should since it is on the wharf. You line up at the counter and part you order. Then you find a place to sit. Your food is brought you your table very quickly even on a busy Friday night. I had the staff select my meal. I had Sanddabs. Never had that before and it was good. My wife had the best fish and chips that she has had on our cross country trip. I would suggest that you skip the artichokes however.
