“Still great!”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Phil's is an institution in Moss Landing and if you've never been to Phil's or Moss Landing, take a detour and stop in.

Located next to MBARI, Phil's isn't a high ambiance restaurant however, the location is good, across from the marina and you can usually walk in and order with no wait.

After reading the white board and placing your order at the counter, a server will bring your order to your table for you. The seafood is consistently fresh and at a price you'd expect to pay at a chain restaurant for a much lower quality meal made with frozen (then thawed) ingredients.

The next time you are traveling the Central Coast, stop in and have fresh seafood cooked to order followed by a walk along the marina or cross the street to the Salinas River recreation area to watch the Otters and seabirds.

This place has a well-deserved reputation for its cioppino. It is by far the best I've ever had (better than Tadich Grill, for example). It has clams, mussels, white fish, Dungeness crab, prawns & scallops in a delicious tomato broth. I can't say enough about how good it is.

Also try the Manhattan Clam Chowder & Stuffed Artichoke for a real treat.

This is not bad for a quick lunch or selecting some fresh fish to take home, but for dinner it can be dark, cold and a bit grubby by the end of the day. If you are outside on that back patio, it's every girl for herself, because you may have to clear some dishes to eat. It gets people from all over and do check the map outside the restrooms to see where they all come from, it's sort of astonishing how they all find their way to Moss Landing. Pricing is ok and food quality is good-now if they could just do something about the patio.

“Get in line, don't complain about the wait...food is worth it!”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Wait will be long if its a great day! Wait in line, send someone from your group to search for a table! Order everything you like from the menu because you won't go wrong! We had the clam chowder in abowl - get the big one and share or else that alone will stuff you up. We had the lobster roll - a bit on the pricey side but worth it! Hubby had the fish and chips and that was good!! Calamari was also fresh!
