While vacationing in Morro Bay we wanted to have Fish & Chips for dinner one night.
We scoured the internet for a recommendation on where to get good fish & chips.
Our preference was for a good beer battered fish, with no bread crumbs.
We found a website where someone had tried fish & chips at every place in town and they highly recommended The Flying Dutchman.
We were a little perplexed looking for the place because the word Flying is missing on many of their signs, so we went in and asked if this was the place and were told "Yes, this is The Flying Dutchman".
We were seated inside at a table with a spectacular view of the bay.
We decided to share a Shrimp Martini as our appetizer and it was fabulous!
There were 3 large shrimp on the rim of the glass with smaller shrimp in the cocktail sauce over a seaweed salad. One of the best shrimp cocktails I've ever had, we just wish there were 4 large shrimp instead of only 3. The cocktail sauce was fresh and spicy, but not overpowered with horseradish. The seaweed on the bottom was delicious, I ate every bite and emptied the glass.
Our fish & chips arrived soon after we finished the shrimp cocktail.
The fish was so crispy on the outside, without being greasy and big succulent pieces of fresh cod within the crispy beer batter.
The chips were seasoned and didn't really need ketchup, but it made them even better.
Since it was a Tuesday when we went there the place was nearly empty, so the service was great.
These were literally the best fish & chips we have ever had!
We had some great seafood while in Morro Bay, and Dutchman's was only surpassed by The Galley, but that's like comparing apples and oranges.
Dutchman's was very affordable too.
If we return to Morro Bay, Dutchman's will be on our list for a return visit.
