In full disclosure, we picked this hotel because we had Choice Hotel points. But it turned out to be a perfect place for our romantic getaway. Morro Bay has a lot of fun restaurants and it so close to San Luis Obispo, it was a great base for seeing both of those towns and going up to Hearst Castle.

The room itself was nice and roomy with a balcony. While the view does look on the rock, they are about 3 blocks from the water, but a little up on a hill,so it is a little obstructed.

The hotel has breakfast in the morning, which is nice.

Room Tip: I was glad we got an oceanview or rock view room. The balcony was nice.

We stayed at the Ascot Suites over the Labor Day weekend. The staff greeted us in a friendly manner and got us on our way to our room in 5 minutes. On the surface the room looked clean and ready for us. If you looked a little deeper your attention was drawn to worn, tired chairs, a bed from the '80s you had to climb up and into and the same hair pin on the bathroom floor Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We were offered a breakfast in the lobby and it was very nice with something for everyones taste, and a wine tasting every afternoon.
I can't put my finger on it but the place was just a little off the mark and it is not cheap for what you get. I will defend Ascot Suites on one point, you can't stay anywhere in the Morro Bay area without seeing those smoke stacks. They are clearly visible from Cayucos 15 miles up the coast. Problem is, how would you get rid of 3 150 foot tall stacks in the middle of a tourist community?

Room Tip: Ask if the room has a view of the Rock.

For the very reasonable rate we paid, our room was outstanding. A very nice high bed, fireplace, whirlpool bath tub and a wonderful view of the bay and Morro Rock. It is within a 3 minute walk of the Embarcadero and the downtown Morro Bay shops.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms have a sliding window between the bed area and the whirlpool tub.

What a lovely clean place. The rooms were specious and beautifully decorated. It had a king size comfy bed, love seat, desk, fireplace, large bath with jazucci tub. There is a lookout garden on the roof to look towards picturesque Morro Bay which was a short two block walk from the hotel. Ascot had a daily wine tasting at 5:30 which was well attended. There was also a free hot breakfast in the morning. Front desk was friendly and room was accurate. Our room costed us about $136 fl including taxes for one night. Highly recommend.

We had booked to stay at the Ascot Suites Aug8&9th through Travelocity Top Secret Hotels so you take your chances and you prepay for the room , No refund which I do take my chances on.
When we arrived at the Ascot suites we we given a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the parking lot towards the 3 huge smokestacks of the decomissioned electrical plant!, I did go ask for another room and for an extra $ we got a room on the 3rd floor with a view of Morro Bay and the Rock, Much nicer view at least. On the way to reception I went down the FILTHY stairs, These appear to have not been cleaned for a long time! We decided to leave after one night as this hotel was not of an acceptable standard, I did let reception know we would check out a day early although we have paid for two nights, She was polite but completely unconcerned why? Did not ask us anything, In the morning when checking out with a different clerk but same attitude , I explained our dissatifaction and asked if they would wave the extra charge only as we where paying for two nights and only stayed one, No not able to and when I mention the condition of the room and hotel, Did I report this to housekeeping? Was her response, This is not my job to report the disrepair to anyone, This is much deferred maintainence and had not happened overnight!

Room Tip: stay at a different hotel!

We booked this hotel through hotwire and found it completely satisfactory. The hotel is located about two blocks from the beach (Boardwalk) and a downtown area that has a number of quaint shops. The hotel is clean and offers a fairly typical early morning breakfast as part of the cost. The room was very nice with good linens and a very comfortable bed. We would recommend this to friends.

We booked this hotel on a last minute weekend getaway. There weren't many hotel options so we went with Ascot Suites based on the postive reviews. The hotel exceeded our expecations! The rooms are very large with a seperate sitting room and a large walk in closet. The entire hotel is decorated English Country (hence the name Ascot Suites) and it is quite charming. We didn't find the decor to be dated unless you consider English Country dated. The rooms were in great shape, super clean and smelled nice. We loved the location, it's a short walk down to the embarkadero, and steps away from the quaint streets of downtown Morro Bay. My only complaint is that the staff is nice but not friendly. They are polite and do their job but do not go out of their way to greet you, not once did we hear a "Welcome to Ascot Suites", "Enjoy your stay", or "Thanks for staying with us". Even so, we will definitely return and are glad we found a comfortable place to stay in a great location.
