“Conveniently located for us!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2007

The Ascot Suites made for decent accommodations. The good points:

- Two blocks from the Embarcadero (close walk to dining and shops)
- Close walking distance to Farmer's Market location
- We had a nice end view of the ocean and Morro Rock
- Nice fireplace, but just for show

The not-so-good points:

- Whirlpool tub wasn't so whirly...more like a current tub.
- The tub has a nice double-paned window to open out to the rest of the room (and the view)...however, the window track has no drainage, and we almost spilled water on the wall and carpet in the room.
- Bed was hard
- The walls were thin...you heard easily through the walls. Of course,
it would help if people would turn down the volume on their TVs and voices...

Honestly, it worked for our purposes, but it does need some improvement. If they made the whirlpool tub work better, and got some new mattresses, I think I'd come back.

This hotel is very similar to an english bed & breakfast, old and with very large rooms with fireplace. The jacuzzi is not the best, old too. The bed is very confortable. The breakfast is included.
In general I'm satisfied about this stay, a part for the room price. I payed around 225 $ for 1 night stay.

Very nice hotel with the feel of home. Nice location just a few minutes walk to the water. Front desk lady (didn't get her name) was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very unique in decor. Something you might expect from an Inn in Vermont. Very clean and the fireplaces were a nice touch. The free breakfast was excellent. Cereals, juices, coffee, tea, make your own waffles and lot's more. Definately would stay again.

Staff were fantastically friendly, so much so we booked an extra night. Hotel was lovely and clean as well as offering a great breakfast and complimentary wine hour! Location was central to all attractions and restaurants and Morro bay itself was breathtaking. The sealions were a spectucle worth seeing!

After reading all these terrific reviews, I booked two of the king rooms with balconies. While the interior of the room was nice, the hotel seems to be slipping quickly. The rooftop area has a nice view but was dirty. The spa that was once there is not operational. Our room had a balcony with a view of a consignment shop, intersection, power plant and distant Morro rock. The balcony had two dirty plastic chairs. However, our room was better than the one I booked for our friends as their balcony had NO chairs and no coffee pot in their room. On a Friday night at 5 p.m., there were no working ice machines in the hotel. It was funny to see all the people checking in and wandering around with empty ice buckets. No appetizers at wine tasting, breakfast about what you'd get at an average motel. For the prices this hotel charges, they'd better get their act together or there will be no repeat business. I'm not going back.

This is our 4th time staying here. Absolutely wonderful rooms and the service from the entire staff is great. Spotlessly clean everywhere.

The decor was a little 'busy' in our room, but it was large enough for the two of us, clean and welcoming. The rooms are as advertised so by reading their promotional material you will get an accurate description.

Kathy on the front desk was a real gem and the lady doing the wine tasting (sorry, I have forgotten her name. I'm a man, what do you expect!) was informative and interesting. She was also well traveled and so had many tales to tell, which made this the friendliest hotel wine tasting we had in California.

The breakfast was a continental style buffet and there is porridge making facilities if you prefer something hot Newspapers are available in the lobby.

Morro Bay is a quite and friendly town and is not recommeded if you are after some night life. It was great for us as we wanted a day to relax after some hectic times in LA and on our road trip to San Francisco. The Hotel was perfect for that. The sea front is a block away and the town is a short stroll in the other direction. The shop keepers on the sea front are all very friendly and all have the time of day for you. All in all, this is a fantastic relaxing place to stay and one I can't recommend highly enough. Book this Hotel with cofidence.

  • Liked — Very relaxed and quite. Location superb.
  • Disliked — Nothing at all.
