This is a great spot to get away from crowds and enjoy your own private section of Central Coast Beach front on the Pacific Ocean. Enter the Bay with a canoe, or kayak at the Western boat ramp in Downtown Morro Bay. Be prepared with water, food and to pack out any human waste, there are no Port-o-potties where you are going.

Watch the tides carefully, Morro Bay has a big swing that exposes and bars and mud flats that will ground all water craft and wading through mud in middle of the Bay is both uninspiring and not ecologically friendly.

Cross to the Spit, observe high water marks and pull your water craft well above high water line.

Observe signs and ropes for Snowy Plover sanctuary and hike over the dunes to the Pacific Ocean.

Leave it better than you found it. There are no trash bins and we observed zero trash of any kind.

Enjoy and be safe. Avoid the mouth of the Bay unless you have a strong motor and significant experience.

Enjoy this slice of Central Coast Heaven!

I'm glad you had a good time on the sandspit at Morro Bay! But it does not appear from your comments that you took a tour with us. We do guided kayak tours on Morro Bay and often do stop on the sandspit, however.

Took a wonderful 3.5 hour kayaking trip in Morro Bay led by our able guide, John Flaherty. We learned a great deal about the local floral and fauna, as well as the oyster-harvesting operation in the Bay. Even though we live on the Central Coast, we got a chance to see the coast from a totally different perspective. And we really enjoyed having wine and cheese at sunset on the dunes. Bravo!

We like biking and we LOVED biking with CCO. We took two tours with this company - Paso Robles and HWY 1, - and Virginia, our guide, was great - helpful, flexible, knowledgeable and experienced. Our bikes were very good and lunches were delicious. We highly recommend them!

Central Coast Outdoors is an amazing company... we are a hard to please group of teens and adults and they have made two trips to the Central Coast unbelievable. Last year we did a cycle trip with them which was absolutely wonderful and this year we did the half day morro bay kayak trip with lunch on the dunes... this could not be beat!! many in the group were first timers and were honesty a bit scared.. John and Virginia made everyone feel safe and comfortable which made this the best trip ever!. John really blew us away when we actually had a gourmet lunch out on the sand dunes. we are going to book this same trip again!!

My husband and I booked Central Coast Outdoors for a hiking tour in Big Sur while on our honeymoon in November, and we loved it! John, our guide, was friendly and informative. We met him at a State Park and hopped in his car. He took over from there for the next 6 hours. We walked up and down the mountains in short hikes with breaks in between and saw Condors, the crashing waves, shady redwoods, and a couple of waterfalls. Our picnic lunch under the redwoods was fantastic -- all homemade food complete with wine, beer, and other non-alcoholic beverages to wash it down. I HIGHLY recommend this company and would tour with them again when I am in the area. I don't have anything negative to say. This was a truly delightful experience and will live in our memories for a lifetime.
