“A surprisingly good deal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2012

If you want to spend a night in Morro Bay but keep it economical the Sundown Inn is a good choice. It's 3 blocks from the shore, clean, has sweet decor showing that someone really cares, adequate sized room, flat screen TV, good lighting, microwave, refrigerator (in the closet), coffee with real cups. It's newish with a retro feel. For $80 per night for 2 double beds, it does NOT provide toiletries, a hair dryer, air conditioning or anything else that you really don't need. There are no amenities such as a pool. Beds were fairly comfortable, not great. Towels were rough and the shower pressure could have been stronger. It's far enough from the street to be quiet IF your neighbors are quiet. The motor court appearance from the street may make you want to turn away, but check out the room.

Room Tip: Choose one back from the street.

We stayed here for five nights. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The room was extremely clean and a nice size for two of us. The motel was a couple of blocks from the shops, restaurants and the water. We walked almost everywhere. There is a trolley stop right outside the motel that travels around Morro Bay. Loved the doilies in the room. Reminded me of my grandmother! I would highly recommend this motel.

The room was comfortable and clean and even had a refrigerator. The price was really good and the lady at the desk was very kind and helpful. Good location as well.

We were positively surprised by this motel. Based on the rate we paid we expected a lot less than we got. The room was clean, spacious, and included all we needed for a 1 night stay. Although the interior reminded us of our grandmothers house, we liked the cottage atmosphere to it. Do not expect too much of Morro Bay though.

I have stayed here twice, once at winter rates and once at June graduation weekend rates. I highly recommend it for an affordable and clean stay. Morro Bay is a beautiful town to visit, and this motel is within walking distance to everything. The owners stay on site and are attentive to the guests. The rooms are not large but are cheerfully decorated and comfortable. There is no outside sitting area or pool, just a parking lot, but the area has so much to offer a visitor that it is not necessary to linger at the motel all day. Be sure to visit the state parks.

This motel certainly lived up to expectations. It was cleaned every day we were there and you always felt like it had been given all attention it needed. The decor is a little out dated but it was kind of fun to remember the old massage beds and the Route 66 type of motels we used to stay in when I was a kid. The owner is always there an looking out for her guests. The price couldn't be beat and the shower (in a state that almost rations water) was wonderful! If you are looking to stay in the motel and never leave your room--don't stay here--the room is too small. If you want to enjoy hiking Montano de Oro or roaming the beach or etc...this is PERFECT!

Room Tip: King size bed on a corner.

I have stayed in several motels in Morro Bay over the past ten years while visiting this incredible area as a photographer and have found the Sundown Inn to be in a class by itself as a spotless, bright and cheerful motel tucked away near the shops and seaside vistas of the town. The owners, Ann and her husband are always available for any issue or service that you might require, and are perpetually positive and up beat. I have a small tour company, American Photo Tours, and this motel is now part of our Best of the West Coast tour. I cannot think of a way to improve on this diamond property and its incredibly economical rates in any season. Thanks for providing such exceptional service and a wonderful place to stay!

Room Tip: Because the motel is in a horseshoe configuration and is one story, every room is really very quiet...
