Stayed here in my ongoing quest to find "affordable" Silicon Valley-area hotels and this one fit the bill, where other similar hotels nearer to San Jose charge double or more, and was looking forward to it as it's only 30 minutes or less from there.
Overall a fine facility but there were 2 main drawbacks:
1) No way to run the fan constantly on the AC/heat unit. I see some hotels like this one moving towards a so-called environmentally friendly practice, however I wish they would ask their loyal guests like me, who like the constant fan for the white noise to sleep and drown out exterior noise (101), and also to keep the room from not getting stuffy. The window can be opened but brings in lots of exterior noise. Major fail in this regard.
2) One of the worst breakfasts I have ever experienced. I rarely mention breakfast in any review but this one was so incredibly bad it needed to be called out. Horribly rubbery, barely-chewy eggs, biscuits and cinnamon rolls so hard they could be weapons, and the bacon had more grease than jiffy lube. Even the usually reliable coffee tasted bad. This HI Express specifically, and all HI Express properties in general, need to seriously step up their breakfast game as Hamptons, Fairfields, Best Westerns and others have left them in the dust with food quality and freshness. It's one of the reasons I've moved away from IHG hotels. Another major fail.
I would not return.
