We've been to Thailand several times and our favorite Thai restaurant is in the SF Bay Area. That said, the River Kwae in Moreno Valley is our second favorite Thai restaurant in California. The business lunch (served M-F 11:00-2:30 pm) is the best value and portions are generous. The business lunch includes a simple hot and sour soup with chicken and straw mushrooms. One can pick from a menu of about 24 different main dishes(e.g., cashew chicken, ginger pork, green curry chicken, red curry chicken, mixed vegetables, minced chicken with chili and basil, pork or beef with bell peppers, beef with broccoli) which is accompanied by a lettuce salad, two fried won tons, and a mound of rice. Nothing fancy but definitely filling. You can request your level of spiciness. The restaurant is very popular and can be crowded M-F between noon and 1:00 pm; but other times of the day, it's easy to get a table.
The regular a la carte menu offers a variety of appetizers such as fried calamari, chicken sate, green papaya salad; noodle dishes including Pad Thai; three kinds of curries (red, green and yellow); meat and vegetarian dishes. Our favorites are ginger pork, fried trout with mango sauce, eggplant with shrimp, fried soft-shell crab with yellow curry powder (we prefer the soft-shell crab rather than the crab meat with yellow curry powder); combination Pad Thai, mixed seafood in brown sauce, green curry pork, and minced chicken with mint and chili.
The restaurant offers beer and wine, and specialty Thai drinks. Open daily.
