A couple of years ago, my wife read a positive review of this restaurant, in a now defunct food magazine named "Gourmet". We drove an hour and a half north to get to the place in Monterey.
We were surprised by how unpretentious and small this restaurant is. But the food was superb, light (an oxymoron word describing Chinese food) and very unusual for a Chinese restaurant. We came back many times to this restaurant, but accompanied by 8 to 10 friends, so that we can have many different dishes to taste. We also were allowed to bring our own wines without having to pay cork fees. We had done what normally we would not do in other restaurants : we do not order any dishes. We just leave it to the chef to cook whatever dishes he wants us to taste ! What a treat.
Let say it this way : imagine a Chinese restaurant chef cook, cooking the way a French chef
would cook ! This is how I can describe the food.
On top of it, the prices charged are inexpensive, so affordable, not really in line with the quality of the dishes served. The service is friendly and family oriented.
I thought long and hard before writing this review, for fear that, with more customers knowing about this gem of a restaurant, the quality of the food might go down or the prices jacked up.
