“Felt too confusing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012 via mobile

The meal was tasty and iced hibiscus tea was good, but it just seemed like they are trying too hard to do too many types of cuisines and maybe should focus on less. The portion sizes could be a little larger. The tabouli was nice but it didn't look traditional. I would go back and maybe try some of the platters others have reviewed.

“Extremely impressive meal, service and atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2012

Walking by Koko's Cafe in downtown Monterey, we were lured inside by the amazing smell and sounds of the Mediterranean. We were greeted promptly, seated and felt right at home with the friendly staff at Koko's. After an exquisite variety of vegan appetizers, we savored the chicken and tri-tip shawerma platters, which came with a side of Greek Salad and roasted red pepper hummus. I have tried many varieties of Mediterranean cuisine, but nothing beats the flavor and freshness of the food we ate here. To top it all off, we had yummy greek baklava and peach champagne gelato. Unforgettable, we will definitely be revisiting Koko's Cafe when again in Monterey.

“disappointing lunch visit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

After seeing the reviews, this sounded like a great spot for a quick lunch. I guess we hit it on an off day. When we entered, there was no staff in the front part of the restaurant. We sat down and waited a long time before the wait person even emerged from the back to deliver some food to another table. She went back into the kitchen without even looking our way. After 2 more trips in and out she finally came over. She said she was the only one working and they weren't really supposed to be open. We ordered but they were out of 2 of the 4 items on the appetizer platter I requested, so she offered to substitute some items. When it arrived there were only 2 dips and some flat bread. The food we received was good but the lack of service, organization, and the really dirty cloth on our table left a bad impression. Maybe it's better during the week?

“Affordable and Tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

This restaurant was exactly what we were looking for -- affordable, friendly staff, very tasty food, and diverse menu. The food was quite good -- we had Greek salads, the Vegie Vegie (a vegetarian sampler plate), the hummus appetizer, and the Egyptian herbal iced tea (yum). We had gelato and baklava for dessert, also great. The music playing the entire time we were there was a mix of Middle Eastern songs, which made for nice atmosphere amid the nice decor. We would eat there again when in the area.

“A tasy and refreshing change”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2012

We went to Koko's Cafe for dinner and it was such a refreshing change to find a restaurant that serves up fresh, healthy and tasty food rather than deep fried traditional American food. We loved the chicken shawerma platter with yummy dips and bread plus a fresh salad. Our 3 kids shared the beef and rice plate plus salad - so nice not to have a children's menu with fries and mac and cheese! I could not recommend this more, it is hands down the best dinner have had so far in the US!
