We’d been customers of this place for 30 years. Til a couple of weeks ago. And now we’ll never go back. Here’s why:
We hadn’t been to Duffy’s in a while and were craving a burger, so we headed there on a recent weekend around 2 pm. When we walked in the door, the place was deserted, save for a guy at the bar and a two-top by the windows. It’s a decent-sized dining area, and when it’s deserted, there’s a lot of empty space.
The waitress told us to seat ourselves, as usual, so we grabbed a booth in order to have an intimate dining experience. There were five of us (all in the 40 - 50 age group), and we took a chair from one of the many empty tables around us. We placed the chair at the end of the booth. I sat in it.
“NO YOU DON’T!!” shouted the waitress from across the room. We all turned to look at her. “YOU’RE NOT SITTING THERE!!” She clearly meant us -- me in particular -- as there was nothing else going on in the place save emptiness and silence.
Then she loudly and rudely lumbered over and herded us to a huge table for 10, grousing about how she‘d NEVER BE ABLE TO GET AROUND ME sitting at the end of that booth.
Reminder in case you forgot: The place was empty. Additional information: I’m not fat.
Through clenched teeth, we thanked the waitress and left.
Dear reader, I strongly suggest you skip this place and go to one of the many other restaurants or taverns in Monterey. They are all much more deserving of your hard-earned money.
