Love this place. We have been staying at the Victorian Inn on average 4 times a year for the last 17 years. The Inn offers wine and cheese in the evening and continental breakfast in the morning. We park our car and leave it parked for the duration of our trip. Everything that we enjoy about Monterey is within close walking distance. We enjoy walking to the wharf (15 min), the Monterey Bay Aquarium (10 min), enjoying meals at "Awakenings, Chart House, El Torito, and Rappa's, walks and runs along the coast in Pacific Grove, and shopping at the outlets. The staff at the Inn have always been very pleasant and we have never had an unpleasant stay.

The family suite is located in the main building (right above the check-in desk and parlor where the breakfast and reception take place.) Although the suite windows open out on Foam and McClellan it is farily quiet (a few noisy trucks in the early morning.) We actually used the fire place in the suite at the end of June (it was in the low 60's.) The shower in the family suite is very relaxing (overhead shower pan plus three spraying heads in the opposite wall...you can just use the overhead, just the wall heads, or both.) The hotel is approximately 2 blocks from Cannery Row...so we parked our car and walked to the aquarium, shops and restaurants every day. The continental breakfast is somewhat small and basic in comparison to other larger hotels, but the egg selection does change. The afternoon wine and cheese has only 1 type of cheese and grapes offered, but good cracker and wine selection, along with iced tea and lemonade (for those of us who can't have wine). My husband enjoyed (as always) the wine and chocolate tray sent to our suite the first night. It was great to have the sofa sleeper (not just a trundle bed) in the living area for our child(ren) to sleep on, although once the bed is pulled out there is not much room to move around. There is a TV in the bedroom and another one in the living area so the adults didn't have to watch cartoons or force the child(ren) to watch the news/sports.

The location of this hotel is excellent for families with children. We had 6 adults and 6 children ages 9 months to 8 years. We were able to walk to the Aquarium with ease as well as naturally being exposed to the local cannery row flavor on the way. Additionally, we walked the other direction to take the children to the Dennis the Menace playground, which was also simply wonderful fun. This walk takes a little longer but is worth the journey. Take the bike path all the way and visit the wharf and see the sites along the way.

The hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They made restaurant recommendations, secured perfect reservations, provided help with locations and directions and treated all ages respectfully and with big smiles. Michelle and Rufus are the best!!

The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a street-side room with a small balcony and a fire place. It was just lovely. Wine and cheese in the afternoon and continental breakfast each morning. How can you beat that?!?!? I would stay there again and again because I loved the hotel and Monterey!

My husband and I just returned from our trip to Monterey and we were very pleased with the accommodations and services at the Victorian Inn. The staff was very friendly and assisted us in various ways such as arranging for an in-room massage, getting tickets to the aquarium and recommending restaurants for dinner.
The room was clean and well maintained. We stayed in a suite with a large patio which was very nice.
We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoons.
The hotel is within walking distance to many sights. There is a bike rental one street over which was a real highlight. Also, we easily walked to Cannery Row, the aquarium and Fisherman's Wharf.
Overall, the room was a great deal for the money and we would definitely stay at the Victorian Inn again.

Each and every employee we encountered were a delight. They were so friendly and it was the first hotel we have stayed at (besides Disneyland) that made us feel that children were a welcome addition to their establishment. We had room 223 and the room had so much character. The wine and cheese reception in the afternoon as well as the breakfast had a nice selection.

My wife and I got the room on Priceline by bidding and they accepted our offer of about $70, which I wish they hadn't. Check-in went smoothly but we were somewhat unimpressed with the room, as it had no carpet and gave the impression of a drab room in a Victorian-style home. The location was great but we had a dreadful night of sleep due to some VERY LOUD people on the floor above us. Sound definitely gets magnified, as the walls seem quite thin. I also didn't understand why they don't use a tight-fitting sheet to cover the mattress like everybody does...the sheet covering the mattress was just like a loose-fitting top sheet.

I might also add that the wine and cheese reception is pretty self-explanatory, so don't think it's going to be anything fancy. When it came time for checkout, I stood there silently for something like 5 minutes while the front desk woman, Mary, checked me out. Having worked hotel front desk before, I would strongly suggest to management that they hurry up the checkout process and try to have more of a personal touch if someone is just standing there waiting.

When we got home, I found that they had charged MY card for the room instead of the Priceline card even though we'd already paid for the room through Priceline! I'm still trying to get it ironed out with the hotel and it's leaving a very bad taste in my mouth about the property.
