“Still great”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed here. We really like it and will definitely stay again when we're next in northern California. The location is excellent, the staff are uniformly friendly and helpful, and the food in the restaurants remains consistently good.

The hotel is on the north end of Cannery Row, walking distance to the aquarium, and an easy drive to Carmel and the other beauties of the coast.

We've been to this hotel three times, will go back whenever we are in the Monterey/Carmel area. The oceanside balcony rooms are about as perfect a room as someone could have. Watch the sea otters play outside the room, in the surf. Hear the soothing sounds of the surf when you have the sliding doors open. One of the best hotels in the country. Service is great, by the desk, the bell boys, the valet. All are friendly and professional. Restaurant, coffee shop, spa all on site and very good.

Short, pleasant walk to the Monterey Aquarium and shops along cannery row. Or, in the opposite directiion, a short walk to the wharf, related shops and the tour boats.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms, oceanside are the best rooms.

I stayed here for business travel for 2 evenings. The rooms were nicely decorated, very clean and quiet. The hotel is in a great location that affords great views of the bay from many of the rooms and from the main lobby and lower levels. It also has a nice sitting area outside. The hotel is all-inclusive and would make a good base for touring the area.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Bay are definitely worth the extra expense.

This was the third time I have stayed at this hotel and the first time on business. Again, I rank the Monterey Plaza among my favorites in the state or, indeed, in the country. The physical plant -- the public rooms, the guestrooms, the location right above the water -- is spectacular. Even more important, the service is efficient with a warmth that seems effortless, as though the staff really relished doing its job. Waves lapping gently below one's balcony, stylish fittings in the bedrooms, sunshine and faultless service: all conspire to make the visitors spine relax, his eyes to open wide to the wonderful view. These qualities, joined to the caring and cultivated cuisine, make a visit to the Monterey Plaza a cherished escape. We look forward to the next time and the next... . Thank you. A stay here is a privilege.

Room Tip: The higher the room, the greater the serenity.

My husband and I took a last minute vacation here to celebrate our 16th anniversary. We had an outstanding stay! The hotel is very clean and handsomely decorated. No detailed has been overlooked. We were especially surprised to find chocolate covered strawberries in our room with a note wishing us happy anniversary at no cost to us. The staff and service EXCEEDED our expectations!!! Every member of the staff was friendly, addressed us by name, and always asked if there was anything more they could do for us. Room service was quick and delivered everything down to the smallest detail. They never overlooked the little things like fresh flowers, condiments, cream, preserves, butter, etc. Needless to say, all of the food was delicious (in Schooners and Room Service). In the end, Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is a great example of what a hotel should be. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the bay provide a wonderful view and sounds of the crashing waves.

We selected this hotel on the recommendation of my sister-in-law. It is on the pricey side, but it is a good value for the money. We had a room overlooking the bay, it was beautiful, comfortable and the staff is highly attentive. I can honestly say we were not disappointed in any aspect of our stay. The Schooner restaurant was great, and the seafood platter for two is excellent! The location is close to many attractions on Cannery Row. It is a short drive to Carmel and has good shopping closeby. One of the best aspects was the soundproofing between rooms.... You get what you pay for.

My husband and I spend every Christmas here and we enjoy each visit. The hotel is clean and staff is courteous and friendly. They provide binoculars in the rooms for watching the sea otters which I very much enjoyed. We have also seen schools of dolphins in the distance. Cafe La Strada has great coffee and a nice variety food to choose from for a casual meal. We also enjoyed staying in our room and having room service. All in all, our stay was fantastic and can barely wait until Christmas 2013.

Room Tip: Suzanna in the spa gives a great message.

Dear D Patison,

Thank you for the positive comments you recently posted about our hotel on Trip Advisor. We are glad to hear you were able to take advantage of the in-room binoculars. The abundant wildife in the Monterey Bay is wonderful to observe. We truly appreciate your business and look forward to welcoming you back for the 2013 Holiday season.
