We really enjoyed our stay here and they proved to us that they indeed are a luxury hotel!! Service, view, room, food, cleanliness and location deserve the highest rating and more!!!
We WILL be back!!!!

Room Tip: ask for the floor just below the spa with a view. Incredible!!

This weekend we stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We spent 2 nights, Friday and Saturday. We both work in the hospitality industry so we have a tendency to critique hotels when we go. The place is pricey but was worth every penny in terms of a great place to stay in Monterey during peak tourist season. We had a Balcony room overlooking the Monterey Bay, Monterey boat harbor as well as several beaches and the terrace area of the hotel. There was a pair of binoculars in our room and from our balcony we saw Sea Otters, Sea Lions, several types of birds, kayakers, divers, two weddings, a great band performing on the terrace and many interesting people amongst other things.

The room was very nice and exceeded our expectations in most every way. All the staff were friendly and treated us like we were guests in their homes. The Front Desk, Bellman (Lyle), Maid, Valet Staff, Spa Staff were all super friendly and helpful. One of our friends called the hotel and tipped them off that we were coming for our 25th Anniversary and we were sent to our room a complimentary bottle of champagne as well as chocolate covered strawberries, what an extra special treat that was! We had a couples massage in the spa and it was also spectacular. We ate in Schooner’s Restaurant one evening and the food and service was excellent. The room service breakfast was just average. This is our new favorite place in Monterey to stay; we will just have to save our pennies to do it. We highly recommend spending the extra money on a balcony room.

Room Tip: Be sure to get an ocean view balcony room

This hotel was impressive right from the start - the valet, lobby, check-in - all the way thru our stay. The room was great, the location was perfect, the price was right. Simply nothing negative to say.....

We traveled as a group of 7 family members on a vacation in July and stayed at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. Two days before we left on the trip, I discovered I'd made a mistake on booking the 3 rooms. A call to the hotel and a conversation with Susan later, we were good to go and the rooms were ready when we arrived. The rooms are really lovely and the staff was so pleasant and accomodating. We had a fabulous time. Other reviewers had remarked on the long walk to the building across the street but we stayed there and loved it. It was quiet and the rooms are really spacious. The rooms were spotless so KUDOS to the housecleaning staff. We will definitely stay there the next time we are in Monterey.

Room Tip: If you want to eat downtown, try Rosine's. The waitstaff was great. Archie's is fantasic f...

We stayed here for the MotoGP races at Laguna Seca.
The location is awesome, right on the bay and the north end of Cannery Row.
Room was great, they even came in and turned the bed down every nite while we were out "on the town".
Front desk, valet, and bell staff were very friendly.
Room service was fast.
Both restaurants and the spa are awesome.
The Duck Club was the best service & seafood that I've had anywhere.
Will definitely stay here again if I get the chance.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony and ocean view for the best experience.

Stayed at the Monterey Plaza for a few nights on our recent California Road Trip. Absolutely beautiful inside. Really nice big rooms, and although we didn't have a balcony, we did have a partial view of the sea.
The layout of the hotel is breathtaking. Terrific views from the Terrace over the Pacific. We really could have stayed on the Terrace all day and chilled. It was also fantastic waking up to the sun streaming in our bedroom windows and hearing the sounds of the water lapping up against the shore outside.

Great to see that the fridge was again ours to use as we pleased without there being any sensors linked in that activate a charge.Simply moved all the Hotel drinks out and put our own in for the duration of our stay.
Massive comfy bed too !!

Very well located for all that Monterey has to offer. Having only one full day we went whale watching early morning, back for lunch, and then had an afternoon drive down Big Sur.

Once again we would have loved to have stayed longer.

And for anyone who has misgivings about the outside noise in Cannery Row,........well forget it. There weren't many people out there at all so noise wasn't an issue.

The Hotel fully justifies it's lofty rating, but I feel I must mention the total debacle we had to endure at Schooners on our first night. It looked a great place to eat, but on arrival we were mystified to be kept waiting for about 15 minutes when there were only about 25% of tables occupied inside. For some reaon it looked like the waiters were calling the shots and making decisions on seating that the front of house manager should have been making.
Still, that would have been only a minor point and quickly forgotten if it was in isolation.
Between having to wait 40 minutes for our first course, to my wife's apparently well done burger having to be sent back twice after she discovered it was bright pink inside, ( you'd think after it was sent back the first time that they would get it right, but alas no), well, we had a pretty miserable experience.
As it was, I had finished my steak before my wife had been able to start her burger.
The restaurant manager seemed completely out of his depth as other customers that night seemed to be having similar problems.
On top of that, I'm afraid to say the meal was vastly over priced for what we got.
To be fair though, having put our point across, particularly that we effectively had to eat our meals at separate times, we were given a deduction from bill.

I'd have loved to have dined there again as it did look a realy nice venue to chill out with a nice meal and a few drinks. Maybe they were just having an off night, but we weren't going back to risk another evening of ineptitude.

But for this, the Hotel would have had a 5 star rating. Everything else was absolutely superb.
And yes,..........we would definitely return. Needless to say however, we wouldn't dine in Schooners.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor with a view.
