We were traveling up the Pacific Coast and made a stop in Monterey. Room was clean. Nothing fancy. It was very dated and small. It was decent because of the reasonable price. If you are looking for a 5 star luxury hotel you should not stay here. If you want to stay in close proximity to the attractions and such, this is a decent choice. Staff was nice and check in was simple. Parking was FULL.

Check-in took forever, we get the key to the room, it is on the lower floor in the farthest, darkest corner. The room is occupied, luggage, unmade beds, food. Go back to front desk, wait forever. The girl tells us "are you sure its occupied?" I ask for another room, she says "I need to find out who is in your room" Really? She expects us to just wait there. Cancelled and went somewhere else.

TA allows 3 or 4 - but I'd like to rate it in-between the two. Slightly above average but not quite "very" good! The location is excellent - walking distance down to the wharf, downtown and Cannery Row. Easy parking - we left our car there and just walked everywhere. It was pretty annoying they refuse to let you check in early - even if there are rooms available - 3pm is the hard rule - no matter what. We purchased on Priceline so were stuck with small bed - no king size - but were tired after a day of kayaking and walking everywhere so the uncomfortable bed was not such a big deal. The bathroom was really clean and nice tiles. We absolutely loved the indoor pool - spent at least an hour one evening until it became really crowded with kids. The breakfast was very average for this sort of level hotel. Oatmeal at breakfast was outstanding and coffee good and hot too.

I would definately stay at this hotel again - it's perfect for weekend visit to Monterey.
