We live in nearby Bay Area but chose to stay overnight (Saturday) for BF to do some bicycle training while I worked on my law school paper. Typically, we do not stay at motels and I previously had not stayed in a Travelodge, so I had some misgivings.

Pros: Coffee/Tea and water/juice are offered for free 24 hours a day. The room appeared clean and had plenty of light. The downtown location is hard to beat as many amenities are within walking distance. The WiFi is free and works well too.

Cons: The facade of the Travelodge is misleading - it looks like it's straight out of a blighted 1960s area. The rooms have thin walls and I could hear people talking next door (who were talking at an average level). The continental breakfast was awful. They only offered 2 cereals (Raisin Bran & Frosted Flakes), yogurt that might have been left out too long, packaged instant oatmeal, questionable boiled eggs, and muffins that looked and tasted like it was purchased from the Chevron next door. I only ate a part of a muffin and a yogurt, but did not feel good afterward. There was not enough parking for all guests and we had to park our car across the street. I feel like they should have parking to accommodate all guests.

Overall, it's a good place to stay if you're looking to save some money. The location is central to downtown, and close to the biking trails that lead to Cannery Row/Pacific Grove, or to 17-mile drive.

Thank you for your positive comments about our great location and price, free wi-fi, continental breakfast and the 24 hr coffee, tea and juice. We get fresh breakfast products twice a week whether it is the cereal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, milk or juice. Everything is stored in our commercial freezer or refrigerator. The continental breakfast is served daily from 7 a.m. to 10
a.m. We have free above and below ground parking and an elevator. We also have an in season swimming pool that is heated now for sunbathers and familys with children that wish to swim. Our rooms are 100% non-smoking with Pillowtop beds in each room. We are not a typical economy-priced lodge. Our location allows you to walk through town 12 minutes to Fisherman's Wharf and
the Ocean Front Trail. The only properties closer are hotels where parking, wi-fi and breakfast
are not free.

When we first arrived and realised the motel was next to the petrol (gas) station, we weren't sure about where we'd chosen to stay. This wasn't helped by the frosty guy on reception and his lack of a welcome, to be fair, he wasn't rude, but he wasn't friendly either. Anyway, the big plus of this motel is the location, a five minute stroll (1 minute drive for you Americans!) to plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars and then around a 10 minute stroll to Monterey Old Town (again for our American friends - me and my wife walk a lot, so you may think our "stroll" is too far!!). The motel was slightly dated, but to be fair everything was spotless and it had everything you could want. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and really fresh stuff - cereal, pastries and bread and good coffee and it set us up for the day. We'd definitely stay here again, despite the petrol station being busy, we'd just like the staff to be happier!! Come on guys, you know you want to....Smile!! (:-)

Thank you for staying with us. You and your family loved our room cleanliness, location and continental breakfast. We have upgraded all rooms with new A/C and furniture/soft goods from 2008 to 2010. In 2013 we are upgrading more rooms with a great new look including new bathroom vanities, mirrors and light and more surprises. We apologize that anyone working here was less than super friendly. We strive to have all bring that smiling, friendly attitude to every guest and to each shift. That is normal for us. We invite you to come back again soon.

It is convenient and walking to Aquarium and restaurants and Fisherman's Wharf and other historic sites in Monterey, California. Unfortunately there are no restaurants in the hotel, but the staff is helpful in suggesting places to eat.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter where you "bunk out", the convenience is what counts.

The room was clean and relatively modern. The desk manager was very friendly and allowed me to park a motorcycle close to my room for my peace of mind. It is in the downtown area on a fairly busy street so expect a little road noise but nothing that will keep you from sleeping.

Room Tip: Street is a little noisy so the upper floors may be quieter by being farther from the street.
