“Cozy and romantic”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

My husband and I stayed here last weekend for part of our honeymoon...what a treat! A perfect blend of ocean cottage and classic elegance. All staff members we encountered were friendly, professional, and accommodating. The hotel had a bottle of champagne on ice in the room upon our arrival with a post card congratulating us on our marriage. Our room was on the 2nd floor facing Cannery Row and we took full advantage of having drinks on our good-sized balcony while people-watching. The in-room fireplace is WONDERFUL; set a very romantic tone. Very comfortable bed and having Directv was an unexpected surprise. In-room continental breakfast was a nice touch, especially since we don't usually make it out of bed in time for breakfast on our vacations. ;-)

The only negative I can think of is the road work across the street was too audible in our room, waking us up in the early morning hours (it had rained significantly the few days prior). But that would likely not be an issue for any other trip to this hotel.

We will definitely make this our hotel of choice when visiting Monterey in the future-- our anniversary destination! Thank you, Spindrift Inn!

Room Tip: 2nd floor street-view rooms are the only rooms with outdoor balconies.

Staff was helpful and courteous. The rooms with wood burning fireplaces are very romantic and the beds are soft and so comfortable you don't want to get up! Its within walking distance of the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the ocean.

This was our second stay in as many years at the Spindrift Inn. Great location - close to restaurants, Fisherman's Wharf and the trail. We like the oceanfront rooms - you can sit in your window seat and watch sea otters frolic, which is such a delight. The rooms are spacious, clean and well-appointed. Breakfast is brought on time and is always fresh. All staff are super-friendly and helpful. I love this place, and always hate to leave. Looking forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: Go for oceanfront view if you can.

My husband and I first stayed here when it was brand new, maybe 20 years ago? We LOVE using the wood burning fireplace while listening to the waves crash along the beach, the complimentary wine and cheese reception each night, in room breakfast, and being within walking distance to great shopping and restaurants. It certainly has not lost its charm, but is in need of functional and cosmetic upgrades. Maintenance was prompt and did their best to fix a slow draining shower, but ultimately was unsuccessful. We will definitely stay here again, but I am resistant to give it 5 stars until some attention can be paid to bathroom and shower upgrades.

Room Tip: The ocean front rooms are absolutely the best!

What an idyllic hotel. We loved it!

Top tip - don't go for the valet parking! The hotel doesn't have it's own parking, and will take your car to the Cannery Row Garage for a premium. We dropped our bags off at the hotel (you can park at the front for a few minutes to do so) then dropped the car off at the Cannery Row Garage ourselves. It's a two minute walk from the hotel, $3 to get in, then $10 a day. Way cheaper than the valet prices!

We stayed in room 202 on the second floor, an ocean view king room- a huge room, with a wide window seat for watching the sea from (binoculars provided!) and a cosy fireplace. The bed was delightfully comfortable, we slept so well, with the sound of the waves as a lullaby. The second floor rooms have a little roof just below the window, which seagulls like to sit on. I had great fun feeding them breakfast leftovers! Confusingly, the room faces East (it's on a peninsula), and we watched an unforgettably beautiful sunrise.

The hotel doesn't have its own dining room - breakfast is served on a tray in your room, ordered the night before. with a choice of fruit, yogurt, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, bread, muffins, cake and juice and hot drinks. My husband was a bit disappointed that there was only a continental breakfast, as we had just arrived in the States and he was hoping for pancakes or similar, but I thought it was perfect. We woke up earlier than expected because of jet-lag, and the hotel was able to quickly make up the tray and bring our breakfast earlier than requested the night before. I had also contacted the hotel in advance to warn them that I couldn't have dairy products, and a large carton of rice milk had already been placed in the fridge when we arrived. Great service!

There is a free cheese and wine offering in the hotel lobby mid-afternoon, but we never made it, as it didn't fit around sight-seeing. There is a roof terrace, but it isn't elegant, very much just a roof with sun loungers, and I wouldn't have wanted to lounge next to an air conditioning vent with no sea view unless I stood up to peer over the concrete wall :)

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have a little roof just below the window, ideal for feeding seagulls on! Don...

My husband and I spent one night at this lovely boutique hotel. We booked a room without a view. When we arrived we decided to upgrade to an ocean view room. I'm glad we did. It was so nice to open the window and listen to the crash of the waves. There was a padded window seat where one could sit and read or watch the otters and seals swim. The room had a wood burning fireplace with two comfy chairs to relax in front of with a television above. I love the ambiance and architecture of an older hotel and Spindrift Inn was dripping in both. Convenient, right on Cannery Row and Monterey Bay Aquaruim just a few blocks away. Oh, did I mention the wine and cheese reception in the late afternoon? All good. The continental breakfast had mostly filling foods. I would say the Spindrift Inn is a very romantic place for couples. Next time we are in California, I will make the trip to Monterey just to stay there again!
