The personnel was very friendly and helpful. Our room was not an the seaside but it was otherwise very good. The bathroom was excellent. Breakfast was served to the room as the hotel did not have a restaurant. There were good restaurants in the neighborhood and the front disk lady reserved a near by restaurant for us. The hotel also had good parking facilities for a modest fee.

Stayed three nights with an oceanview and it was just what we wanted. Room was very spacious with a huge bathroom. Lots of little very special touches; even binoculars to see the sea otters outside your room on the bay! Loved having breakfast in our hotel robes on our balcony each morning. Close to Cannery Row to see the sights and have dinner making this such a convenient location as well. Staff were exceptionally helpful and Derrick at reception was fantastic. For a September stay we also found this to be great value. With so much choice along the coast, we were thrilled with our choice to stay in Monterey and really glad we chose the Monterey Bay Inn.

Room Tip: Oceanview with a balcony looking out to the Bay and pier.

Made the mistake of arriving tired after a long drive. My wife wanted a sea view and a balcony. We had both. I was a walk-up not an internet booking. The price quoted was so alarming that the clerk could not say it out loud but wrote it on a piece of paper. It still hurts to recall it. Suffice to say we had sea views and balconies further South on the coast but never paid even half as much as we did at the Monterey Bay Inn. It was a good hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel many, many times over the years. This was our 30th Wedding Anniversary and decided to stay there again. The front desk was exceptionally helpful and nice (Quinn & Derrick were great). The hotel hasn't changed much over the years in the decor which is still very nice but my husband and I think it is time for a change. The mattresses need updating. We have noticed the last couple of times that the beds haven't been comfortable. I don't think they should charge for parking. The price you pay for the hotel should include parking. The room is a large room which was very nice (it included a couch and desk). The view was very beautiful with your own balcony. Housekeeping was very thorough and it was nice to come back to a very tidy room.

Room Tip: Be very specific when making your reservation about what "ocean view" you are expecting. We were on the 2nd floor with an ocean side view.

First, and most importantly, I want to wish kerbear64 a very Happy Anniversary! 30 years is such an amazing hallmark, and I am thrilled to know that our hotel was able to be a part of this guest’s celebration.

I want to thank this reviewer for their time and comments. Feedback from our guests is so important to us, and that is even more the case when such feedback comes from our repeat guests. We are grateful, as well, for the comments about our staff; their hard work is a large part of what makes our hotel unique, and I am happy to share this with Quinn, Derrick, and all of their coworkers.
We actually have a number of exciting improvements being made to the hotel; we’ve recently installed 47” flat screen TVs throughout the hotel, and will be beginning HD Channel programming soon. Shortly, we will begin replacing all of our mattress sets, and updating our bedding by the end of January. We welcome all of our past guests (and our future guests) to stay with us soon so that they can experience these and other improvements for themselves.

Regarding our parking fee, please know that this is in place out of the utmost respect for our guests. We believe that our guests should only be charged for what they want and use. Some properties, including some of our neighbor hotels, use a “resort fee” to charge guests for amenities; typically this includes access to a fitness center and parking. We disagree with this practice because all guests are made to pay this fee, but not all guests use these services. Still other properties will offer similar services “complimentary,” and put the charge in the room rental. When this is done, the fee ends up being hidden, and sales tax ends up being charged on something that might not have been wanted in the first place. We believe that it is unfair to charge for something that is not wanted or used, and as such we offer optional amenities and services, such as parking, separately. We regret if this separation of service makes anyone think less of our hotel; our goal is to make all of our guests feel welcome and respected, and a part of this is being honest about what they pay for.

Thank you again. Should any guest wish to speak with one of our managers directly, please don’t hesitate to let us know; we are always happy to speak with our guests and future guests.

Thank you,
the General Manager
