Monterey Marriott Requires A Refresh

Monterey Marriott is Adverting renovation in October 2019. Can’t come too soon. Stayed there in 2010 & it’s the same mediocre venue. Needs renovation & soundproofing both internal & external. Lidia, housekeeping, & our buffet breakfast omelet lady are superb.

I guess we were spoiled down in LA at the Marriott in Marina Del Rey (and we spent the same # of points per night on each place- nowhere close to being comparable)... we roll into this place and there is no room upgrade, no concierge lounge (my husband is the highest marriott level) and the room is very outdated and the beds were awful- both sloped towards the middle. They do give you vouchers to breakfast (since there is no lounge) but the entire world is trying to eat here. The buffet spread is good (even includes made to cook omelets) and they were able to keep up with the masses but we had to wait almost a half hour the first day. We checked in on July 5th and there were people everywhere, I guess they had been their for the 4th of July celebration. The hotel is right in the old town- but the town felt dirty and rundown just like the hotel. We are glad we visited this part of the coast but the town and definitely the hotel were our least favorites out of 5 stops up the coast.

Visited here as part of a California trip with my wife and daughter. Good access to shops an restaurants on surrounding streets and free bus at the bottom of the street that goes to cannery row and the aquarium. Hotel is not the most modern but is clean and well maintained with helpful staff. We used the great buffet breakfast which was great with good selection and could fill you for the day. $25 a day valet parking seemed reasonable.

We reserved a Bay View room, a little more expensive than the average guest room, we enjoyed the view and a little additional space. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, plus we had a small refrigerator in the armoire; other than that it was a fairly average hotel room. The toilet and shower area have a pocket door separating it from the sink area, our door didn't close all the way. We decided to use the valet parking, which was easier with unloading and returning luggage to the car.

Compared to other hotels in Monterey, the Marriott is a little expensive (thus just average in my rating); I'm not sure it is worth the additional $$.

There is no way this can be considered a Category 6 Marriott! The place is gross. Checked in - no mention of elite status, no separate check in for elite members. Room was old, outdated, and filthy. Had dirty mirrors in bathroom. Carpet in bathroom dressing area. Room faced courtyard pool - noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. Pool opens early in morning and if someone is talking at pool -- you can hear whole conversation in your room. Hotel staff is useless, valet was awful. Self parking is 3 blocks away. Do not recommend this hotel at all.

We needed a place on short notice and they had decent same-day room rates. It's been a few years since staying here and the breakfast buffet has definitely kicked it up a few notches. They had everything, including an omelet station, and the service was superb. The breakfast hours were equally generous. We didn't have a renovated room, but I expect this place will get 5 stars after the renovations are complete. TRAVELER TIP: there is 2 hour parking on the street at the north end of the hotel and 1 block west on the south end. Skip the garage and park for free if you arrive in the evening...and then until 11am the next morning.
