Holiday Inn Express Monterey - Cannery Row

One thing this hotel house is location - only 1 block from Cannery Row, aquarium, etc. The problems we encountered is that this hotel is poorly designed. We were here as part of a long trip down the coast. Therefore, with my husband and 2 kids (8 and 11), we had 2 suitcases and 3 duffels. Kids are old enough to wheel their own bags - problems occurred when going to our 3rd floor room. You go up elevator with luggage cart, but upon exiting, you have to go down about 6 steps, go outside to outside entrance room, and then up to room which is about 8 steps up. It was a very strange set up and if anyone was a bit older or needed help carrying, etc., they could not do it. Forget about it if you have a cane and need to get your bags to your room. Also since this is an Express, there is no bell boy to help. We only stayed 1 night and we of course had to make the trek downstairs the next day. This is actually our only complaint - the location was great, the breakfast was great, the hot tub was decent. However, I would not choose to stay here again for the aforementioned inconvenience. The alternative would be to stay on the 1st floor -- we did not realize this inconvenience when checking in - although we are not "first floor" people to begin with - always like to stay a bit higher.

Very clean room, rather quiet, and a comfortable bed. The evening wine and cheese was a nice touch, and the breakfast was fine and convenient. I would definitely stay here again if I'm looking for a relatively cheap place to stay in Monterey (an otherwise very expensive hotel town).

We dropped in at the last minute to see if there was a room available and got a really lovely room with 2 double beds and a queen size pull out couch. Lovely and clean room - modern and nicely decorated.

The price wasn't bad either - for the location. They have wine & cheese in the afternoon - and we indulged. And we further indulged in the morning with the fine breakfast they provide.

I second what the earlier reviewer said about carrying heavy luggage up and down the stairs -that was a pain.

Really nice staff too.

Spent one night at the Holiday Inn Express. The location is extremely convenient to the aquarium, cannery row, restaurants, and other shops. Everything is within walking distance, so there is no need to drive and look for parking which can be a hassle on the weekends. The hotel provides free underground parking which is a perk, considering other hotels in the area require a charge. We got room 307 which was pretty big. Even with two double beds, there were plenty of space available in the room for luggage. The beds were on the soft side, but the blanket and pillows were clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was really noisy even at low setting, and we couldn't leave the windows open as the traffic noise was just as loud. The free breakfast included a lot of varieties - rolls, muffins, bagels, toast, oatmeal, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and fruit. At $189/night, it was a bit pricey, but considering the great location and overall satisfaction, it was worth it.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way south from San Francisco. The corner room was clean and comfortable. There were one or two problems however, the windows were poorly fitting and noise from the road was a little distracting and the TV would only tune into a few channels and the rest were just 'snow' interference. The main problem was that I had specially requested a ground floor room if there was no elevator. Well there was an elevator but due to the layout of the building on several levels we still had to lift our heavy cases up/down 2 flights of stairs. If you travel light you probably would not be bothered by this but we don't travel light! Staff were friendly and breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn Express food. Good points were it was within walking distance of the Aquarium which was great.

This is a relatively new hotel within walking distance of Cannery Row. Our group included 3 teenagers and we easily fit in their queen double with a sleeper sofa. The rooms were very clean and service quite good. The free morning continental breakfast was excellent and easily saved us $20-$30 a day. Items such as cereals, hot danish, toast, coffee, etc.
I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is in a good location at fishermans warf ,it is relatively cheap. I just did not feel the room had been cleaned thougherly and found it hard to relax because of this. The bedding was of very poor quality. I noticed when we were leaving that beds were being changed to white cotton sheets and new over blankets. To get our room we had to carry our cases up and down several steps. We stayed at 2 other expresses on our trip which were of better standard in terms of decor and cleanliness.
