So the parking garage is a bit of a maze and the wait for elevators can be well very very long. Room was spacious and comfy bed. The best thin however was the freshly baked cookies still warm that were out for the taking upon arrival. Price was not cheap but nothing seems to be for the area.

So glad to hear how much you enjoyed our fresh warm cookies upon arrival. Hopefully that tempered your frustration with the parking garage and wait for the elevators, which is not usually too long of a wait. Thanks for the positive comments about the comfy bed and spacious room also. Thanks for staying with us and we invite you to return soon.

First the negatives: The hotel is somewhat dated, and the small fridge in our room periodically made these loud humming noises. In addition, our room was near an elevator and the thin walls did not help. All night we could hear people walk up & down the hall ways and get in & out of the elevator.

Now onto the positives: We received great service throughout our stay. The outdoor swimming pool was perfectly heated and amazing to swim in--in the middle of December. The adjacent whirlpool/hot tub made jumping in & out of the pool much more bearable. The location of the hotel was nice, tucked away in the corner of Monterey, minutes away from Cannery Row and the Aquarium . Other higher end hotels nearby may cost you twice as much per night. The parking structure was uniquely designed to be situated beneath the hotel rooms. I found this to be very convenient & came in handy in the pouring rain during our arrival.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the elevators for less noise

Thanks for your "Flawed but saved by good service" review. We agree that the hotel is dated...our renovation begins in a few short weeks and will be completed in March, 2013! We will look into the refrigerator noise, which can be annoying when trying to sleep. We are thrilled you enjoyed our swimming pool, whirlpool and convenient location and hope you return to see our updated hotel soon!

We stayed there this past weekend as a mini-family reunion. The staff couldn't have been nicer, they gave us a great recommendation for lunch and even gave us their personal deck of playing cards when we wanted to have a card game! The rooms are nice and the cook to order breakfast buffet is good and a good value for $14.95. I also appreciated how close the hotel is to everything one wants to see in the area but still with some privacy.

The hotel and amenities were nice. The thing that set it apart for me was the gentleman working the front desk. I had misplaced my phone charger and need it for gps to get to my customer account (as well as have a phone for calls & email). He asked the maintenance guy to cover the front desk, he looked at the type of charger and within 10 minutes had found one that I could take with me. He genuinely wanted to help me.

First appearance is good; however, that changes the second you have to drag your luggage up two sets of about 8 stairs to get the the lobby - no ramps through the front doors.
I have about 40 nights in Hilton's this year and no Honors beverages - was told the water "arrives around 5"....never happened.
The room smelled and the backside of the remote needed cleaned prior to use. My 40 nights this year got me a balcony view of the side of a hill...

The only positive was the restaurant and the short taxi ride to the airport ($10). Food was great, and the EVENING service crew was excellent - morning server seemed like she just got there and already wanted to leave - had to ask to OJ three time after having an empty glass for 5 minutes.

You might ask why stay here then? Company travel department chose it - I've stayed at the Marriott in Monterey and if this was on my own dime - I'd spent the extra $30 a night to stay there.

We appreciate your frank review and apologize for you not having the "experience" we intend for you to have. We can improve getting you waters and OJ for breakfast, and perhaps even a pool view room when the hotel is sold out. However, we do have some steps getting to the front desk lobby from the main hotel entrance which we cannot change, and offer have elevators from the garage level which can get you into the lobby without stairs for your next visit.

This HG Inn turned out to be way nicer than I expected. The lobby area is clean and well-lit. They had complimentary cookies there when we arrived. I thought it was a nice touch! The parking area is weird though - note that it is one way around a circle and no one ever follows it. LOL!

Rooms are spacious and clean. Our bathroom was spotless and they had tons of toiletries and towels stocked. They have a fan in the bathroom (plus for obv reasons!) The wi-fi was actually fast and logging on was easy. They explain upon check-in your username and pw.

What was the mood killer was the REALLY LOUD party going on above us where we had to call front desk 3 times to deal with it. I don't think I have ever complained about a loud guest. Not even in Vegas! But whoever was above us was either moving furniture or throwing things around. I would have thought that security would have dealt with it faster. Out of control and something I'd expect at a motel. Made getting up at 7 am to drive back to L.A. way harder than it should have been.

I'm terribly sorry that you had to endure noisy neighbors. Thanks for the nice compliments for the rest of your HGI experience, and I apologize for the noise and slow response time to the noise. I will pass along your comments to our front office and security staffs.

This hotel does not feel like a typical Hilton Garden Inn, I don't know if it was built by a different chain and then acquired, but it had a very different and even dated feel. That said, the rooms were nice enough and the staff was friendly. One minor problem was the small check in desk (waited a while to check in even as HHonors Gold, but no more than 10 minutes). The breakfast was very good with cooked to order omlets, hashbrowns, etc. Overall no major complaints, the hotel suited our needs well.

Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel, we appreciate your comments. The hotel was not built as an HGI so it does have a different feel. We are beginning a renovation in early December, 2012, to change the dated feel to one more current, so we encourage you to return and see if you like the new look better! We apologize for you having to wait at check-in but glad to hear that you really enjoyed our breakfast and friendly staff.
