Stayed for one night on route from San Francisco to L.A. The hotel is not in a good position and to get into monterey is a car ride away - there is nothing within walking distance of any note. The room we were in was on the ground floor near the swimming pool and was very small. It was relatively clean but the decor was shabby and the room had a 'well used' feeling about it - part of the wall was re-plastered and not even painted over. We also found an old sock underneath the bed!! The Hotel was part of our tour of California and was one of the most expensive we stayed in - $142 for th single night - we stayed in a deluxe room at Caesars in Vegas with double Jaquzzi etc.. for less than this. As we are from England we wanted to pay the cost by travelers cheques - but were refused - we had to pay by credit card - everywhere else took travelers cheques - we had our passports for I.D. but were still refused. Overall, Monterey is a lovely place and the aquarium is worth a visit but do yourself a favour and stay in a different hotel - this was the worst and only bad one of our two week tour of California - too small / worn decor and an old smelly sock!! There must be far better hotels in Monterey - I don't know how this one gets good reviews!!!

Stayed with one adult and 2 children en route from SF to LA.

The room is absolutely standard for a motel, but with plenty of space.

Breakfast was very basic - pastries, coffee and juice and in a cramped space.

Location fine - opposite Del Monte Mall (really enjoyed the California Pizza Kitchen); 5 minute drive to Fisherham's Wharf and just off Highway 1.

Pool was OK but had a few leaves.

Check-in OK - functional just like rest of motel.

We stayed at the Super 8 for three nights in August. We paid around $110 for 2 king beds. We were a little disappointed in the property after reading all the other positive reviews.

Positives: good location, easy drive to Monterey and all the attractions. nice fridge and microwave. whole foods and nice shopping center across the street (pizza my heart was a great restaurant for kids with really good pizza). big room with two sinks, one outside the bathroom which was nice.

Negatives: wasn't as clean as it could have been, socks were very dirty from the carpets. our bed was horrible, sank so low on one side, it needed to be replaced. breakfast was very basic.

Overall we weren't over or under impressed with this location. We didn't expect a whole lot from a Super 8, but did expect it to be a little cleaner from reading all the other reviews.
