“Quiet, affordable hotel”

While DeAnza is a little outside of the waterfront area, the hotel is quiet, clean and our room was huge. Sofa and easy chair were a plus. Firm but comfortable mattress. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic but offered eggs and sausages with sweet rolls. Coffee was surprisingly good. We are traveling down the coast of California and this was a pleasant, economical surprise.

Room Tip: ask for a king suite

Monterey is a tourist town, we all know this. With this in mind there is alot of competition to appeal to customers there. This establishment does not disappoint for us blue collar types. Most of the previous reviews are dead on with their descriptions. Out of the 10 days we spent in California this place had the best breakfast and most comfortable beds. Very spacious room for the four of us. Clean carpet and walls throughout. Our room, as well, was very neat and tidy. Close enough to the freeway for quick access to Carmel but not too close to hear traffic noise. The drive to Cannery Row/Aquarium takes only about 15 minutes. The pool is rather small but the koi pond in the lobby is a nice touch. Overall a very pleasant experience. The front desk and housekeeping staff are to be equally commended.

Room Tip: Pick a room on the top floor facing the parking lot.

Our rates are reasonable for the quality of the room and level of service we provide. Monterey may be a tourist destination but we still provide a great value and it is important to us that guests enjoy their stay. Your experience was proof positive of our commitment. We stayed in this hotel for one night as part of a road trip and it ticked most of the boxes. Check in was smooth and our room was large with tea and coffee making facilities. There were also flasks of coffee and tea in the reception area at all times (including chocolate and decaf coffee). At first we thought the room was going to be noisy as it was beside a couple of refrigerated vending machines and the lift but it turned out that we didn't hear any of them at all. The room looked a little dated but everything worked including the free wifi which performed well. The bathroom was a good size.

The bed was clean and comfortable and we had a good sleep. In the morning we had to wait a while for the lift to go down to breakfast and it wasn't till later that we figured out that there were stairs at the end of each wing (we looked at the fire escape routes) but we weren't sure whether these were really accessible so we waited for the lift. Considering there were only three floors it seems to take ages. Breakfast was fine with a good selection from a hot and cold buffet. But there aren't really enough places for everyone to sit so some people were taking their food back to their rooms which made sense.

We didn't use the pool but it did look tiny and it's awkwardly sited between a car park and the pavement - more of a place just to cool down in in hot weather. The hotel is situated on the edge of what appears to be a residential area and is a little out of Monterey but we were down at Fisherman's Wharf in less than 10 minutes.

A good hotel which could do with a bit of a freshen up but otherwise worth using if you don't mind not being in the centre of Monterey.

This is a reasonably priced, conveniently located hotel that's in need of some updating. The carpeting is worn and the furtniture is a bit banged up. And the way the room is arranged makes it so that the only place that the TV can be watched comfortably is from the bed. Having said all of that, I would absolutely stay there again and the reason is because of the staff. These people understand and exhibit customer service in spades. When we checked in, we asked about restaurants and not only did they make recommendations, they offered to call and make us reservations. There were other examples throughout our stay but all were positive and "above and beyond".

Room Tip: This hotel isn't near the water but it's less than 10 minutes away and so there's a lot...

I stayed here for 1 night with my 2 teenage sons. It was OK but a little over priced for what was on offer. I chose it as it advertised a pool which I thought would be nice after a drive down from San Francisco. It was so small that we did not bother. The room was fine though. Clean and comfortable with a nice selection for breakfast. My sons were pleased to find some batting cages close by as they are keen baseball players.
I have stayed in several Best Western hotels but can't really see why this got a "Plus". Handy as a stop off though.

Thank you for your review of our property. I am surprised by your comment that we were not the best value. You did not mention what day of the week you were here. Rates vary depending on the season, day of week and special events. Perhaps you were staying during a peak time.
The "Plus" refers to the type and quality of the amenities we offer. As you stated the room was clean and comfortable with a nice selection for breakfast. We appreciate your time and consideration.

We spent 2-nights here and got a beautiful, spacious room for a very pleasant price. It was lovely having space to move around in the the room without having to stumble over the bed or a suitcase. As a non-smoking hotel, having to take the elevator to the parking level for a smoke was a bit of a pain, but not a deal breaker. Although the elevator was right next to our room, it was slow and there was no stair access directly to the lobby. The continental breakfast was very good, but there was a very limited seating area and little counter space for standing while eating.

On another point, we stopped here with no advance reservation and were impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Upon checking in, while chatting with Jamie, the reservations clerk about our trip up Hwy 1 (delayed by a less than courteous slow driver), a stranger insisted on interrupting our private conversation and began speaking aggressively to us directly. Jamie realized the situation needed to be handled quickly, and asked the other "guest" to step away so she could assist us with our check-in. She didn't want to ask for any of our personal information while this other guest was hovering (looking for a fight?) and was able to diffuse the situation quickly, professionally and with a minimum of fuss. We spoke to Jamie several times during our stay and she was always professional, courteous, helpful and very friendly. She is an excellent employee and exemplifies the level of professionalism that Best Western demands from its employees.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the rear parking area were quiet, king suites were very spacious.

Good room, large and very clean.Friendly staff and a decent breakfast with sausages, various breads cereals etc. A couple of miles away from fishermans wharf etc, but easy to get to by car. We would stay here again if passing through.
