“Two Restful Nights”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

We arrived early evening to this very quiet, comfortable B&B. We were checked in quickly and received an appropriate restaurant recommendation and reservation for dinner as we unloaded our car. The room was very clean, well appointed, and comfortable, as we expect from a Select Registry member property. The location on a quiet residential street and the solid construction of the building result in near silence at night. The two breakfasts were enjoyed with other guests around the large dining table. Menus featured excellent hot entrees, plenty of fruit, juices and coffee. A first class stay.

The reviews say it all and it is true - the gorgeous grounds, the comfy bed, amazing breakfasts, wonderful location, all the little extras, etc.
Well, all except for Michael K who was way way off + thankfully at the wrong accomodation for his needs. Our small room (of course, it was built in 1929) also had enough room for a sofa + chair. Ambiance trumps a little tight in the bathroom.
And by the way, Katy was sincerely concerned and cooperative with my wife's gluten allergies!! We will stay no where else when out this way.

Nice old Inn, on quiet street but walking distance to most of the attractions. Comfortable rooms, older but with a bit of character. The best is the breakfast in the morning, very fresh, generous and delicious! We like to always try new places but would stay there again.

We stayed here on trip and our room was absolutely beautiful. It had a nice gas fireplace going on arrival. It had a private entrance from the gardens. The bathroom had a huge jacuzzi tub and shower. Coffee, biscotti, and newspaper delivered to room outside door early in morning to hold you over until breakfast.
Breakfast was cheese blintzes piled with fresh berries. It was fantastic. Everything was perfect. We ate in the dining room, but they can also deliver to your room.
I highly recommend this inn.

Room Tip: We had a small room and it was fine!

The Inns rooms are quite small, but the bed was very comfortable. We had to choose between leaving the windows open for fresh air, and smelling the wood fires that other guests were burning! The Inn was a short walk to town, but you will have hills to climb. They have very nice grounds, and wine is served outside in the afternoon, weather permitted., but very little effort is made to have any taste nibbles. seating in the living room is very limitted.

If you really like sweet and carb loadded breakfasts, this is the perfect place for you! If you prefer a breakfast of Bacon and eggs, don't come here. They have a vegetarian kitchen. It would have been nice, if they informed us of that when we were making our reservations, since we don't eat carbs or sugar!!

Room Tip: Very small rooms, without comfortable seating.

IIInkeeper, Owner at Old Monterey Inn, responded to this review, September 16, 2012
I must say we were rather surprised by this review! We are very sorry to learn that these guests were disappointed in their stay here with us. We would have loved to have had a chance during their visit to address each of their concerns, but we were never given the opportunity, as nothing was ever mentioned during their three night stay that anything was unfavorable. When these guests checked in, they informed us of some dietary requests (not allergies), and we tried our best to accommodate their wish for scrambled eggs and heavy whipping cream on the side for berries that she wanted to provide (she informed us that heavy whipping cream has no carbs), instead of the Mushroom and Artichoke Strada we were serving that day. We were prepared the next day at breakfast with a similar menu for them as they had requested, but they were a no show for breakfast. We take great pride in serving well thought out, beautifully prepared breakfasts for our guests, and we would like to think our breakfasts are not something you fry in a pan before running out the door for the day (bacon and eggs?)!
We are also somewhat puzzled by the comments regarding the wine and hors d’oeuvres hour. Wine and hors d’oeuvres are always set up in our beautiful living room, with seating for at least 14 guests. During the visit of these particular people, the weather was spectacular, and many people chose to enjoy their wine and the company of the other guests in the garden, leaving the living room (and all 14 seats), empty!
Meanwhile, most of our guests thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to sit in front of the private wood burning fireplaces in their rooms, and again, we are very sorry that these guests were so disgruntled by the smell of the fresh pine crackling in the other guests’ rooms.
We always encourage each and every one of our guests to please let us know if something is not to their complete satisfaction. We can only hope that they will be kind enough to let us know during their visit, so we will have an opportunity to make their stay with us as sensational as we always strive to!

We spent 3 nights in the Library room over the holiday weekend. The Inn is located on a quiet street that is surrounded by a beautiful garden that we overlooked in our private balcony. The Inn is straight out of a fairytale built in the 1920s with amazing ambiance. One of my favorite features was the wood burning fire we had every evening in our room. Katy and Lawrence spoiled us with their hospitality and yummy food. They set up reservations for us to eat at the best local restaurants and a kayaking trip where we paddled past sea otters and harbor seals. It was a perfect weekend that I didn't want to end! You will not be disappointed in this place!

WOW, WOW & WOW!! That was the response of the three of us who were fortunate to stay at the Old Monterey Inn! The setting is absolutely gorgeous- filled with flowers, water features, and chairs for relaxing, while the inn is CHARMING! Our suite was decorated impeccably and filled with amenities. The hosts and staff was extremely attentive, informative, and hospitable. Running a B&B is very difficult, but Katy and Lawrence are masters of the trade! The breakfasts are amazing, filling and DELICIOUS, while the afternoon wine and cheese was a welcome respite after exploring the beautiful Monterey Peninsula. This is a MUST stay place as it is a place to remember!!
