Very busy bar and restaurant, but despite it our server was great and food very good. We all loved our entrees, the men liked their salads, while the ladies feasted at the salad bar. Caviar, hearts of Palm and all! The entrees were fresh, hot and full of flavor. We would definitely go back. Beautiful view of the water, visible from every seat, and we enjoyed it though not seated neat the window.

My wife and I never go to Monterey and not dine at the Chart House. The place is almost hidden. Once you walk in you have unobstructed views of the bay, while dining you can gaze upon sea otter playing and feed right below you in the bay. The food and service are both top notch. There is a salad bar which is second to none. With the views, service and great food you cannot go wrong dining here. If nothing else go and have a drink at the bar and witness the views, chances are you will stay for dinner. And besides you may see Reggie Jackson like I did.

My husband and I had dinner for our anniversay weekend in Monterey. After reading the reviews, we thought this would be best for us. We were not disappointed. We went on Sunday evening and were seated immediately at a table with a view. The server was prompt and answered any of our questions. My husband had a steak and since he likes his medium rare and most restaurants over cook them, we ordered it rare. The server said they cook their steaks perfectly and if he wanted medium rare he should order it that way. He did and it was perfect. I had the sea bass and it was outstanding. For dessert we had the apple crisp and I had the creme brulee. Both were excellent. The prices may be a little high, but you get what you pay for. This was worth it. We will certainly be back.

As locals, we seldom venture down to Cannery Row in Monterey, but decided to brave it on a Friday evening, and went to The Chart House for dinner. We had a 7:30 reservation, and had to wait about 10 minutes for our table, but the hostesses were warm and friendly. We found the service at the restaurant to be pretty enthusiastic, if not completely professional. It appeared that they have hired staff to help with the summer rush, and our server was quite nice, and she tried very hard. We appreciated that. The bread was warm and tasty, and the restaurant does offer a couple of decent local wines by the glass. I was a bit disappointed that there was not a single California Zinfandel offered by the glass though.

We skipped the salad bar, appetizers and soup, and went right to the main courses. Our entrees were well prepared and tasty. One of us had the stuffed tilapia, and the other had the coconut shrimp with crab fried rice. We both thought they were quite good. We shared the molten lava cake for dessert, and it was delightful. We saw the mud pie go by and almost stole it off the server's tray. We enjoy the "comfort food" style desserts offered, as many restaurants on the Monterey peninsula offer what they believe to be exotic desserts that just don't quite do it for the common folk like us. Give us a big slab of mud pie any day!

We quite enjoyed the fact that we were not rushed through dinner. Our total bill for two entrees, two glasses of wine, and one dessert was $86 - about average for restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula.

Keep-away. below zero when it comes to service. Rude management staff, lack grace and finesse. They live in the stone age.

The natural beauty of Monterey bay is there and always be, but it dissipated quickly as we encountering the Chart House poor service by management.
