On a recent stay in Carmel, CA friends planned a visit to Monteray's Fisherman's Wharf. They treated us to a glass bottomed boat ride after we ate at Isabella's. Even though it was November it was just barely warm enough to sit outside. Being from northern IL, we rarely have an opportunity to eat lunch with the ocean all around us.

We were under a bit of a time constriction and our waiter kept things on track. None of us had eaten at Isabella's before. The chowder was a disappointment. The rest of the food was OK. It may have had to do with being served outside. We throughly enjoyed the atmosphere outside.

The food was good, as is most of the food on Fisherman's Wharf. We had a nice table overlooking the bay, and were serenaded by seals barking... LOL. It was a nice atmosphere. The service was excellent, they paid attention to details.

All in all we had a very nice, relaxing lunch.

Te wharf is a tourist honey pot. They talked a good story but failed to deliver on every level. From pointless theatrics decanting wine to wine glasses that smelled so horrid we rejected the wine (although to their credit they dealt with this very professionally) the food was just tired and dull. We might have expected the intense competition to bring out the best in them but maybe it was the end of the season and they were too tired to bother. Shame

I had checked out the websites for Fine Dining in Monterey and this restaurant was not on them. The book in the lobby of our hotel had all the known restaurants and Isabella's.
I heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone, fish eater or non-fish eater. The place is small so reservations would be a good idea. We went on a Thursday which is a rather evening and they were still almost full only the "fill in" tables available.

Extensive menu, excellent wine list with someone who knows what they are talking about. Service was prompt without being too quick and we were not pestered the whole time by someone asking how we were liking our food!

Looking forward to dining here in the future.

It was the last day of our vacation and we looked for a place to celebrate the last meal of the trip. We chose Isabella’s based on the menu that was displayed in front of the restaurant and it turn out to be an excellent choice. We sat on the balcony on the second floor and enjoyed the fresh air, the nice view and the excellent food. All the dishes we tried, from appetizers to desserts were perfect.
