“Memorable. Great food and price.”

Also known as Paprika's Cafe. We came here based on reviews on Tripadvisor and are so glad we did! We were looking for a place where we didn't have to dress up or spend a lot of money after a long day. The owner/cook/waiter was very personable and deservedly proud of this little restaurant. It's small-- like many restaurants in Europe--but the food is reasonable and delicious. Very good tabouli and baklava. This restaurant was a surprising memory that stands out in our visit to California. Wish we had one just like it at home!

“Delicious meal in a cozy, charming restaurant.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2012

My husband and I came across this place when we were walking towards Cannery Row. Well, we never made it to Cannery Row that night, but we weren't in the least sad about it. This place while small, is charming, nicely decorated with brassware and oriental rugs, and with comfortable seating. It's a one man show. Our host was originally from Lebanon. It was almost like eating in his home, he greeted us, found out what we would like to eat, and took very good care of us throughout the meal. We had the dolmas, falafel, hummus, tabouli, and baklava and turkish coffee for dessert. Oh, and freshly made lemonade. The pitas was warm from the oven. One thing to mention...there is no alcohol. We definitely would come back the next time we are in Monterey.

“Great Food with Good Prices”

The food is great and fresh! And I love their Turkish Coffee. This is a great place to try something different if you want to experiment something new. Lots of Vegetarian options too. We try to visit once a week.

“now known as Paprika Cafe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2010

very charming little spot on Lighthouse Avenue. They have plate menus for $10, which can't be beat. A little bit of everything for a nice taste treat. The meals were big enough to satisfy us, but not too much. The owner is also charming and was more than happy to explain the details of the food.

The baklava was different from what I'm used to and to what I prefer ... but it is sold "to go" as well.

It's not very big, but that makes it more cozy .....

If you want a nice filling and tasty meal for a reasonable price, stop by Paprika Cafe ....

“Great food at a great price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2009

My family has been eating at Paprika Café (formerly Tabouli) for at least ten years and has only good things to say about it.

Christoph is an excellent, pleasant host who is happy either to chat for a few minutes or leave you alone if that’s your preference. Students from the language institutes in Monterey often stop by to practice their language skills with him (he’s from Lebanon).

Paprika Café features Middle Eastern food (falafel, lamb, shawrma, gyros, humus, tabouli, pita bread) for the extremely reasonable prices of $5/wrap, $10/plate. The food is prepared while you wait and is tasty, filling, and satisfying. The pita bread here is the best I’ve ever had.

The décor is modest and there are only a handful of tables, though, due to the brisk take-out business, we’ve never had to wait for a table.

Paprika Café doesn’t aspire to be a place where you’d stage a marriage proposal or a 50th anniversary celebration. But for an inexpensive flavorful lunch or dinner, it can’t be beat. Highly recommended.
