This Monterey restaurant has a spectacular view of the bay. I use that word just as it should be used, the view is spectacular. Schooners could probably exist as a "great view" restaurant alone, but they don't. Everything about this place is excellent, from the energetic, attentive service to the innovative, well presented food.
I had a Veuve Cliquot (the mark-up was very reasonable), the tuna appetizer, and the tenderloin with the "angry prawns". The tuna was a small art portion on top of a large block of rose salt (Himalaya, Bolivian, who knows). It was top quality, fresh, and had an invigorating flavor.
The steak was very high quality and served with two sauces of complimenting flavor. The prawns were fresh and went well with the sauce.
The service was very attentive, to the point that I never had to ask for anything. I asked for and received a custom dessert, and the entire experience was positive.
