The wines at A Taste of Monterey are wonderful and won't empty your wallet. Besides the great wines they offer a complete line of wine accessories. The view from the tasting room is fantastic. You can view the Monterey Bay from the comfort of the room. They also offer wine by the glass, cheese trays and friendly staff to ensure your visit was a happy one. They also offer different levels in their wine club, enabling one to truly enjoy the wines of Monterey County. A place not to miss.

Through a commercial courtyard, up the rather dim back stairs and down a hallway, you will come to this large light-filled second-floor tasting room with spectacular views of Monterey Bay. There are hundreds of bottles to buy, but each day just a few are featured for the wine tasting, which is reasonably priced, and can help you decide what to buy, if you choose to--there is no requirement to buy anything. If you are only going to make one stop for wine tasting while in Monterey, make it here for the amazing 180 degree views.

The beautiful views of Monterey Bay are definitely a draw for this tasting room but the wines are pretty good too! My boyfriend and I stopped by here on a recent visit to Monterey. It's a nice place to sample wines from different area vineyards without having to drive all over the county. They waive the tasting fee ($5-10) with the purchase of a bottle and give you a list of about 20 restaurants in the area that waive their corkage fee if you show it was bought from A Taste of Monterey. Great deal!

Its second-floor location gives A Taste of Monterey its main advantage. As a wine tasting venue, I've experienced much better, but it's very pleasant to sample wines with a view of the bay behind the tasting bar. Don't just sample; buy a glass and sit at the tables reserved for paying guests with wide open views of the sea otters eating in the kelp beds. Bring binoculars though; they're a little hard to see out past the breakers.

We decided to buy the premium wine tasting and added a cheese plate. Between the two of us we spent $41 for very small pours of five OK wines. The tasting room is on the second floor overlooking Monterey Bay where you can observe the sea otters playing amongst the kelp. The view is great, but the wine tasting experience is marginal. The staff we had were polite, but not really wine enthusiasts. For a much better wine tasting experience, go downstairs to the Bargetto winery tasing room, or go a couple of blocks to the Pierce wine tasting room. The information provided here about the local restaurants who allowed you to bring your own bottle of wine to dinner without corkage fee was also inaccurate (Sea Harvest quoted but wanted $15 corkage fee). You can have better wine tasting experiences elsewhere in Monterey. We do not plan to return here.
