The day we went out there were a large number (over 20) gray whales in our viewing area. Unfortunately, I think that a lot of people on board (including 4 out of 8 of our party) missed almost all the whale watching since seasickness overtook the majority on board. Ironically, many folks were wishing our time with the whales was shorter due to the turbulent waters. We also saw an albatross and many, many sea lions.
That said, if you take motion-sickness meds and be prepared it's worth it. The naturalist on board was very friendly and knowledgeable.
The ride out to the whale watching area was more fun than any roller-coaster I've ever been on!
