Owner description: Princess Monterey Whale Watching has been in the cruise business for over 30 years. We are the Monterey Bay's leading company in narrated ocean and bay tours, specializing in natural history and biology of marine wildlife, especially whales! Our whale watching trips run year-round and are fully narrated by marine biologists/naturalists, all with 10 or more years experience on the Monterey Bay.

The day we went out there were a large number (over 20) gray whales in our viewing area. Unfortunately, I think that a lot of people on board (including 4 out of 8 of our party) missed almost all the whale watching since seasickness overtook the majority on board. Ironically, many folks were wishing our time with the whales was shorter due to the turbulent waters. We also saw an albatross and many, many sea lions.

That said, if you take motion-sickness meds and be prepared it's worth it. The naturalist on board was very friendly and knowledgeable.

The ride out to the whale watching area was more fun than any roller-coaster I've ever been on!

I was ready to see any sea life near the boat. But do expect a long ride so relax and enjoy yourself. We saw killer whales, seals,, sea lions and seagals :) We were all trying to record or take picture while moving around the boat. Its not easy while waves are rocking the boat and you not sure if you will see them and where? It also was cool in march so check on the weather forecast before you go. They have some shacks and drinks on board if needed. Its a fun family sight seeing to do as well

we took the early tour at 10 am. we traveled in september and we didn't buy tickets in advance. the tour took about 3 hours and we saw many whales, dolphins, sea lions .. it was amazing! we took great pictures. don't pay more money for the uper deck , it's not worth it. the guide was excellent and explained many interesting things. recommended:)

Have been whale watching with this outfit twice in the last year, and have been very impressed. The staff is very knowledgeable, and it is obvious that safety and comfort is their main concern. The last trip was little rough, and the staff was right there to do their best to keep everyone comfortable. The naturalist was great.

I have been whale watching hundreds of times in several countries and I have never paid extra to be on a top deck. And then, on top of that, we were not allowed to the front of the boat - 25% of the top deck was roped off.

As it turned out, the captain turned the boat so people could stand on the side of the boat to see the whales. But to pay an extra $20 per person is just not right. This company has 2 large nice boats and I guess they need the extra money. They are more than twice the size of the other boats on the wharf but not worth twice the cost.

We saw lots of Gray Whales and a big pod of Pacific White Sided Dolphins so the trip itself was a success as far as seeing wildlife. Also, I payed for the top deck because it is better for photography.

The 3 staff people were all a bit stand-offish. The deck hand guy was kind of rude and not friendly at all. The naturalist gal only stayed on the front top of the boat - did not mingle to talk to guests like on Monterey Bay WW trip. She seemed to have a basic memorized script and seemed like she'd rather be elsewhere because she was not at all enthusiastic. The 2nd half of the trip she just sat in the captains cabin and was texting on her phone not saying anything to guests at all. The captain himself never spoke until 70% of the way through the trip and then I think he talked only because the naturalist was no where to be found. There was a 4th guy in the galley who was friendly - I only talked to him for a minute as I was checking out the boat.

If you have never been whale watching then you will probably be happy with this outfit. But if you really want to get lots of information about the Bay and its marine life, I would suggest others and you will see the same wildlife, get better narration and pay half the price.
