We were in Monterey on a cruise and were there for the day. We were walking and stopped at a neighboring wine bar where our host convinced us to have lunch at the Fish Hopper. It was great advice and this turned out to be possibly the best meal we had on our 10-day vacation. We were seated at a window table with a great view of what I assume was Monterey Bay where we could watch a family of sea otters playing together. Our server at the wine bar raved about the clam chowder at the Fish Hopper, but clams just aren't our thing, so we started with the shrimp ceviche. Oh my God it was good! Raw shrimp cooked/marinated in lime juice and served with a light tomato sauce. I then had the day's special, halibut and fries. It was the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life - tender fish, lightly breaded with hot, tasty fries. My wife had the crab cakes appetizer and said it was the best she's ever had. We enjoyed a glass of nice local wine with this fantastic lunch.
