“Best seafood on cannery row”
Reviewed July 1, 2013 via mobile

We wanted a great seafood meal our last day in Monterey. This restaurants menu was a bit pricey but we ventured in since the chowder samples were so delicious. During happy hour, you can sit at the bar and get discount appetizers. The crab cakes tasted beefy and were perfectly cooked with mango salsa. The coconut shrimp did not disappoint. They were sweet, crisp and juicy. The main courses were astounding!! We ordered fish dishes, mahi mahi and salmon. Both were flavorful, and tender, fresh and the portions were decent. We left no crumbs. despite being full I ordered dessert, The chocolate mousse. It's a must have. Our server was great, even had a few good jokes. He kept the bread and butter coming, which was not sour dough, thank goodness. Our experience was incredible. Even the butter theithing sea gulls couldn't ruin a meal here. My husband and I racked up a bill of $120. Totally worth it. The view was great too. Honestly we were too busy stuffing our faces with amazing food to really enjoy it.

“Awesome restaurant, recommended.”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

After a day sight seeing in the local area my friend recommended we visited one of his favorite restaurants for lunch. No reservations, we turned up at about 12:30 and was immediately shown a table. Our table was out on the jetty bit which over hangs out over the bay, so we had a lovely view of the beach, rocks, kids playing in the sea & sea lions sunbathing on the rocks.

Started off with a mixed platter to share between us. Artichokes, deep fried octopus (i think) and salad. Very nice. I opted for a local wheat beer to wash it down with which was also really refreshing.

We followed that up with some Chowder (or thick soup for UK people) which was easily the best ive ever had. Lovely thick, creamy. Lumps of veg & fish in it. Very nice.

Jerry the waiter was very attentive, polite and enthusiastic. In fact all the waiters & staff were very good and I noticed they must have had 50 staff all running about, so no shortage of staff here.

For main I went for the seafood salad from their specials menu. Again this tasted awesome. Crab meet, prawns, shrimps all really fresh and tasty, with lovely salad and a separate pot of thousand island dressing for you to add to your taste. All good stuff.

By the time it came to dessert we were all pretty stuffed so skipped that course.

Bill came to about $150 for 3 of us which I felt was reasonable for the quality of service & the food.

Id definitely return here again if im in the area and recommend it to anyone.

When we left the restaurant was packed. Its quite a big place with a lot of tables inside the main area as well as out over looking the bay. So its clearly a popular place. Id recommend booking if you are planning on coming in peak hours.

“Best meal of the week”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Showed up at the Fish Hopper on Wed. 26th. No reservations but was seated on the end of the "pier" over the water. Waiter am busboy were very attentive and our drinks were NEVER empty. All 4 of our entree's were awesome. The kids enjoyed eating dinner and watching the seagulls and sea life from the table. We would definitely stop at the Fish Hopper again if we ended up on Cannery Row.

“Better for Dinner”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Lunch was average. Salmon sandwich tasted as if the fish had been previously frozen. My wife was not enthrolled with her crab sandwich. We have had dinners at the Fish Hopper which were much better than their lunches. For lunch, check out the wharf for fresh fish and more reasonable cost.
