At first blush, The Fish Hopper appears to be just another tourist oriented restaurant. We actually passed it by on our first night in Monterey, choosing another nearby restaurant that was very disappointing.

Choosing the Fish Hopper for a midday appetizer and cocktail break the next day, we found the view to be spectacular, the friendliness of the staff engaging and the food quite good. Before leaving, we made reservations to return for dinner.

At dinner we were more pleasantly surprised, by high end quality of food and service for a reasonable price. Does it fit the category of tourist restaurant? I guess so. But as someone who was in fact a tourist ... I was very impressed.

The view is perfect! Otherwise, the restaurant is exactly what you would expect from a large seaside tourist driven restaurant. The food was just ok and certainly not what you would expect for the price. The wine list was not great, not a lot of local varieties. The upside is the service was good and the restaurant is so big there is no waiting

After a week in Northern California, I had the opportunity to visit the Fish Hopper. My husband and I started our dinner with a free appetizer, fried calamari and the Bowl of Fire...basically a fish bowl full of booze, which was truly tasty and had us giggly in about 15 minutes. We ordered the lobster stuffed crab(hubby had this) and the crab was melt in your mouth delicious. I played it safe with 'surf & turf', but the lobster was to die for and the filet could be cut with a fork, it was so tender. Service was excellent. This restaurant has much to be proud of.

We chose this restaurant by faith after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor for our wedding reception for 35 guests. The wait staff were accommodating and met every need and expectation that we had. In fact, they went far beyond our expectations in service! The food was fantastic: petite filet mignon with gorgonzola, grilled salmon, and chicken fetuccine alfredo. Guests were given the choice of clam chowder or green salad along with their entree selection, and the kids were served cheese pizza. Our group was seated in the back of the restaurant, with windows surrounding us, overlooking the Monterey Bay. I would whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant for a wedding reception, or just to go out for a nice dinner.

The restaurant overlooks the ocean and there isn't a bad table in the place. The service wasn't as good as I thought it should be for the prices that they are charging. Amazing fish selection and everything was fresh and delicious. They are very generous with their cocktails VERY big!
