At first blush, The Fish Hopper appears to be just another tourist oriented restaurant. We actually passed it by on our first night in Monterey, choosing another nearby restaurant that was very disappointing.
Choosing the Fish Hopper for a midday appetizer and cocktail break the next day, we found the view to be spectacular, the friendliness of the staff engaging and the food quite good. Before leaving, we made reservations to return for dinner.
At dinner we were more pleasantly surprised, by high end quality of food and service for a reasonable price. Does it fit the category of tourist restaurant? I guess so. But as someone who was in fact a tourist ... I was very impressed.
