“Fantastic Service, Great Location!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

I was on a business trip to Monterey and the conference was at the Portola Hotel and Spa. I didn’t stay at this hotel, but I had two colleagues that did. They commented on the same issue I had with the hotel I stayed at, the noise of people partying on the outside, on the street or in their case the pier galleria. I thought their rooms were very nice and would have worked better for me as I like everything compact and handled. The rooms were very well done and appeared much less worn than where I stayed…plus, the hotel was attached to the conference center.
All the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. I cannot say enough about the help, the conference, or the place – it was nearly perfect if there is such a thing? The location is excellent, right at the pier over the Bay, close to nice dining, the Museum of Monterey, the waling/bike path to the Aquarium… it is a great location. I recommend trying it out.

Stayed at Portola Hotel & Spa recently as they hosted the ESTC, Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference. Everyone was so pleased with the rooms, meals, spa and friendly staff. The location was perfect - walkable to the beach, Cannery Row and historic attractions.

Room Tip: FYI: you need to cross the street for the spa.

Our room was so lovely, we didn't want to leave it! The decor was amazing. Loved the plantation shutters! One of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on! Great location by the fisherman's wharf & great restaurants.

The Portola Hotel & Spa is very nice looking inside and out. The location is great if you want to visit the Aquarium and walk around town. However, the room itself smelled like sweat as well as the pillows and bed sheets, and I found hair near the shower head. The staff was very nice, but I just felt that for the price, it wasn't worth it. I don't see myself staying at this hotel again. Also, if you do stay in the summer be aware that none of the rooms have Air Conditioning. There is only one ceiling fan or you may request an additional floor fan.

Beautiful lobby, room was very nice, and the location couldnt be better. Took a short drive to pebble beach and Carmel by the Sea. After getting back to hotel, we walked around the waterfront. We had already been suggested as to where to go for dinner,...but at the waterfront there were many choices. There was a farmers market right outside the front door too.
cookies upon check in,...were an added pleasure

Room Tip: don't just use this hotel as a place to sleep...this should be a 2 night stay

We stayed in a room with a great King size bed, it also had a mini fridge and coffee maker. The location is the BEST because we were able to park the car and walk everywhere.
That is all the great things about this hotel, now for the negative. If you go stay at this hotel for any type of event and you want to get a late check out, forget about it!!! They will charge you another night stay to do it. Also anything and everything in the room has a price so do not touch unless you want to see it on your bill later. Remember even though you are paying those prices $$$$ the hotel will still have adults running around late at night in the halls that have been drinking and the security/hotel does nothing about it. No free Internet

My sister and I stayed here to celebrate her birthday. We upgraded to a harbor view room and it was wonderful! Two big comfortable double beds, a beautiful view, and large doors opening to a balcony. The location was excellent also. We were able to walk wherever we needed to go.
We enjoyed it so much my husband and I are going back in a few weeks.
