We were very satisfied with choice of hotel, having had so many opinions from friends that had visited this area regarding merits of other places in Carmel, Pacific Grove etc. At end of day, suited us perfectly. Great central location, very comfortable room, pleasant staff. A few downsides as mentioned by other reviewers. This was only hotel of four used on our trip without free Internet access and without free parking. These extra costs per night were paid for but left bit of sour taste at being ripped off a bit....not usually expected at hotel of this standard. Overall though, would use again and recommend.

The rooms and beds are comfortable, but the lighting is less than adequate. Mood lighting is fine, but if you can't see beyond the bulb, it's annoying. Also, wi-fi is $9.95 per day and parking $17/day.

Room Tip: There is no breakfast, but couldn't get the review deleted

Rooms do not come with internet included. I didn't even know that was still practiced these days. Internet is $9.95 per day. I need to print directions for the next leg of my trip and to use the business center internet was another $5.00 for ten minutes (which included printing). It is very important to include free internet in price structuring. I would rather have it included in my room rate than to feel like I’m being nickel and dimed to have to whip out a credit card for every minor service. This was very irritating.

Other than this...our stay was hear was very pleasant, staff was very nice and welcoming. This hotel is very centrally located to shops in both directions, lots of dining with fresh seafood, Italian, and Mexican cuisine. It is the perfect location centrally located but in the quieter area.

Room Tip: 4th floor rooms are not actually off the ground. Request a higher room for additional privacy.

We were satisfied with our Priceline room here. It was large with two queen doubles and everything within worked fine. We had no view but were not bothered by street or bar noises either. We were not close to the elevator but I consider that to be a positive. I did see that the back of the hotel is over a pub and nearer to the wharf and other restaurants so it may be noisier. We parked one street over and two blocks up in public parking lot #4 at Van Buren and Franklin. It is a small outdoor lot that costs $4 to park in from 9am to 6pm. After that it is free. The East and West garages a block below the hotel are $7 for 24 hours. We parked there for two nights and no one bothered our rental car in any way. The walk was good for us and we discovered the Troia Market one block up from the convention center next to the Portola where we got great sandwiches early in the morning to take on our trip down to Carmel, Point Lobos State Park, Big Sur, and McCray Falls (this last was our favorite beautiful sight of the trip). We were back by dinner time. We were not that interested in the wharf but it is right behind the hotel as is a small street with some old houses (where the pub is behind the hotel) and restaurants including a Beni Hana which might appeal to the many families we saw staying here.

17 mile drive is close to town but do not see it after Big Sur as we did-it will be a let down. The Aquarium and Cannery Row were great for anyone of any age and a little better than the wharf in terms of food and sights. We ate at Jack's Restaurant in the hotel (which as said by all has a great lobby) the 1st night with a travelzoo deal of a 3 course meal for 2 for $69. Many there were using it and we were all treated well. The meal was very good value for the price but the coupon said this was a $135 deal without it. I would have been mad to have paid that much for the quality of food we had but it was good for $69. I do not think kids would like it though I am sure they would be well treated. There were too many other restaurants in the downtown area they would have a better time at including the pub we went to on the 2nd night (Crown and Anchor up and around the corner-good beer, good variety of ok food). The hotel was a good place for us for what we wanted to see and I think it is a great choice for families. Husband does not do breakfast, I went to Starbucks across the street and there is also a good Italian place on the side of the hotel where many were eating breakfast.

I love staying here with my husband, friends, or with my kids. It is perfect for everyone. This hotel has great staff and it has everything you need. Easy parking garage, bell service, and a cute pool/spa area. It is wonderful coming here to the gorgeous sea breeze. It is right on Fisherman's wharf. You probably won't have to drive around Monterey, as during the summer a trolley stops in front of the hotel to pick up passengers for Cannery Row.

I cannot emphasize the comfort, the beds are so soft and comfy and the rooms are very quiet. My kids loved staying here for 3 nights.
