The famous bisque starter is good BUT the whole experience was rushed despite the restaurant being almost empty. Given so little time to eat we couldn't finish our bottle of wine even though we ordered 2 courses each. When asking to take our wine home with us this was immediately put in a brown paper bag which then sat on our table until we finished our food.
Shocked at the bill of $120 when we had 3 starters and 1 main between 2 people and a meal lasting about 40 minutes. Tourist trap!

The Sardine Factory is truly an "Old School" restaurant and over the years.has not lost a bit of it's charm In this day and age it seems everyone is into Fusion or Nouveau cuisine. The Sardine Factory offers an alternative by offering a stand up menu featuring classic Italian, seafood and wonderful Prime aged steak and Lamb selections..

You won't be disappointed!

While we went to the Sardine Factory expecting a tourist trap, we were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The restaurant has an upscale setting with a lot of wood. We sat in the bar area enjoying the live music and chatting with several friendly locals. They offer an extensive menu with a lot of seafood, pasta, and meat choices. My wife and I shared the hot appetizer tasting plate (crab cakes, calamari, prawns) and a salad. We enjoyed the food in a great atmosphere. The menu can be relatively pricey depending on what you order.

There were 14 of us in town for our parents' 60th anniversary. Bill put us in our own room (the Steinbeck room) - perfect spot! The food was delicious, the service was excellent. The owner came in to wish my parents a happy anniversary and stayed to tell a few stories about the place. After we'd finished eating, they brought my parents a complimentary dessert. All in all, it was a very special evening in a very special place.

When in Monterey, my husband & I asked the locals where they like to go and hang out. Most recommended the Sardine Factory, so one night we walked over there and checked it out.

The ambiance is festive and fun-- like you are stepping back in time to a fishing village the early 1900's. This would be the stately home that everyone flocked to for an amazing party with delicious food and wine.

The restaurant only serves sustainable seafood and top grade beef. (The sliders were the best we have ever had in our lives.) The staff was friendly and the place was packed. We learned that the restaurant has won many awards and even served their signature abalone bisque at Ronald Reagan's inaugural dinner!

All in all a great place. Too many menu items to choose from so we are definitely planning to go back.
