“Surprisingly good. Excellent chowder too.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

Because of the location I was expecting a typical tourist rip-off, but I was completely wrong. We were greeted courteously & seated quickly. We used a coupon (from whale-watching) and got our first of many pleasant surprises-a large portion of perfectly prepared calamari. I was raised across the bay in Santa Cruz, so I'm particular about local seafood (and calamari is so easy to ruin), but this was cooked to perfection, and the batter was great too. Wow-great food with a free tourist coupon-first time ever for us! Then we tried the bread bowl chowder, and were completely won over. Our entrees (Sand Dabs, Sole, and the Platter) were absolutely delicious. and then there were the sides-I was expecting the standard over-cooked and bland rice pilaf - and was completely surprised by their quality and flavor. From couscous, to risotto, to some kind of corn meal - each perfectly complemented the main, and were enjoyable in their own right too. On top of that you add in a great view, well mixed drinks, a very decent wine selection, and you have a nearly perfect experience. It reminded me of when I was a child (before the aquarium and tourism explosion) when we would travel here strictly to have a great dinner. We'll be back

“A nice experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2014

After checking in for a table, we were given a beeper so we could walk around the wharf while there was still light before dinner. We came back for a seat in the bar and when our table was ready had a view of the inland bay shore. Clam chowder was to our liking; just creamy and thick enough with proper amount of clams and flavor. Macadamia nut crusted halibut was cooked just right; coconut fried shrimp tasty and the fried calamari tender with a nice choice of two sauces (glad there was two as I preferred one over the other and my husband liked the other). The waiter was helpful and the booth seating comfortable. Bread refilled with a smile. Our hotel gave us the card for the complimentary calamari appetizer so that was what drew us to take a look and walk by. A nice treat for a once in a while splurge.

“Good food and wonderful view of the wharf.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014 via mobile

We went for an early dinner on a Friday night without reservation. We were promptly seated at a window table at our request. Seafood paella and clam chowder were yummy with generous serving of seafood. Generous amount of clams in clams with linguini. Nice touch of presenting the ladies at the table with roses.

“Food, service, location...the whole package”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014 via mobile

We had an excellent experience in this place, the food was great and so was the service and the restaurant is perfectly located to get view of the Monterey Harbor while dining. We tried the Jambalaya, and while the presentation was not as you would get back in Lousiana, the taste was great and there was plenty of seafood in there. The clam chowder was delicious and so was the onion soup. They also had paella, again, not 100% like what you would get in Spain, but close enough, great taste and generous on sea food.
