The ny strip steak was tough and low quality. The sand dabs were heavy with breading and doused in a fatty sauce. The calamari was ok. All in all it was red lobstah quality

Went to Fisherman's Grotto on 3/8 for my husband's birthday. Knowledgeable and helpful bartenders that served us great martinis and wine. All waitstaff except our main waitress were attentive. Our main waitress neglected us by not checking in very often. She also wasn't very knowledgeable, as she didn't know the difference between a baked potato and twice baked potato. My husband had the surf and turf. The steak and lobster were decent. I had one of the specials with shrimp stuffed Maine lobster and prawns. The prawns were slightly over cooked. The lobster was heavy handed. The veggies in both our meals were really good. The clam chowder we ordered was very good.

Bottom line is that each meal was $40-$45 and tasted like something you'd get at Red Lobster (plus no cheese biscuits!) we won't go back.

I've lived on the Monterey Peninsula all my life, out of all the restaurants on the wharf this is the one that we go to the most. Great view, good atmosphere, and customer service. You can go casual or dressed up.....

We live in Monterey and probably go to the Grotto at least once a month, sometimes even more often. The menu is quite varied, not just seafood but their seafood is my favorite. Last time we were there we had enormous crab Louie salads, plus my husband had a bowl of their famous clam chowder and I had a cup of clam chowder. If you are having dinner, I recommend just getting a cup of chowder. The bowl is huge and practically a meal by itself, not to mention how rich it is. They also have the best calamari in town , IMO. Battered and fried to perfection. The grilled artichoke appetizer is also one of my favorites, served w/an aioli sauce. Leave room for dessert! Everything is excellent but I love the tiramisu. The staff are all wonderful and will do everything they can to make sure you have a wonderful experience. The owner is there almost every evening and walks around greeting his customers and is often at the door to thank people personally for coming to his restaurant. Visitor or local, come to the Grotto. You will be glad you did.
