Owner description: For thousands of years people have made their living fishing the Monterey Bay, beginning with the Rumsien Ohlone, the native people of Monterey. From abalone to rockfish, everything was fished and the Monterey Bay was a multi-cultural stew. This entertaining tour led by noted fisheries historian and author, Tim Thomas, will take you back in time to explore the history of the fisheries of Monterey Bay and the people who made it Monterey famous.

To really learn the history of Monterey Bay, there is not a better place than with Tim and this tour. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the area and it's history. We were captivated throughout the tour to learn about all the twists and turns the area has taken. The walk itself was easy paced and not difficult. Should you have an interest in the historical foundations of the Monterey Bay, look no farther.

Excellent tour, given by a knowledgeable native, illustrated by his book full of classic photos and graphics and a bag full of surprises. Fascinating history told with engaging energy. Highly recommended.

Tim escorted us on a well orchestrated and fun historical tour of Cannery Row . With a back pack of props and a binder of historical pictures we set set out to see & discuss what it was to live in Monterey. Without giving the plot away, Tim puts the era of the sardine in perspective . From the time of the Rumsen Indians to the last smoke stack standing, not an abalone shell was left un-turned. Very fun afternoon to be shared with friends. We had a swell pre-tour wholesome lunch at The Happy Kitchen on Lighthouse. Quirky vegetarian place with cool vibs.

Wonderful tour of Cannery Row. I've visited the area so many times without seeing what we saw in the few hours on the tour. Engaging and knowledgeable - Tim is a wonderful tour guide.

We have been to Monterey a dozen times, but never took the time to dive into it's history. Local historian Tim Thomas gave a fascinating and detailed tour. We have a greater appreciation for the area. Highly recommended! Thank you, Tim!
