KEEP WALKING! This place is awful. My wife, son and I went here for dinner while in Monterey on 4th of July, and regretted it the rest of the night. There is a woman outside basically calling folks over to come and join them for dinner. Granted, we got suckered because we had just arrived in town, and we’re very hungry. We sat at their one table outside the restaurant, so we had to listen to her cat-call possible customers all through our dinner. By the end, it felt more like a used-car lot – she was making deals with passer-bys by offering 10% off their check, or promising a water view table, even if one wasn’t available, and then scrambling with the owner so she could keep her promise. She advertised the clam chowder, saying it wasn’t like anything else ‘you’ve tried, I guarantee it’ – but of course, offered no explanation as to what made it different. Personally, it tasted like canned soup to me; having a bowl of “real” clam chowder at Rosine’s later in our visit, and then another bowl at Cioppino's in San Francisco later in our trip showed me there was nothing else like theirs, because no one else’s was terrible. My wife’s salmon had bones throughout, and my son’s cheeseburger was cold, and the bun was too hard for him to bite. I had the prawns and chips, and there was zero seasoning. Do yourself a favor and keep walking, don’t get sucked in to the ‘come one, come all’ atmosphere where they try to grab any and every customer possible, and serve VERY unimpressive food. Oh yeah, they also advertised a ‘free’ calamari appetizer, but have NO INTENTION of providing it to you unless you remind them … our waiter told us that priceless tidbit. STAY AWAY!

Ate breakfast here several days in a row, because of the excellent French toast, friendly service, pleasant view of the harbor and sea otters at play each morning. Diners could choose their own available table. The mild cross breeze through the open windows was refreshing. Speaking of the windows, they were spotless, as well as, the entire dining area. Noticed families with young children appeared to enjoy their breakfasts with offerings kids liked.

We just arrived for a 5 day holiday to Monterey and of course had to have a seafood lunch. Running the gauntlet of the Fishermans Wharf clam chowder hawkers led us to Crab Louie's . The free chowder sample was the best of the bunch in our opinion so we decided to dine there. Our table overlooked the water and we had a great view of the sea lions playing and sunningnthemselves on a float in the marina. We had oysters on the half shell (average, but half the price of what we pay for them in Canada), crab cakes (a bit overlooked- almost burnt) and panko crusted sand dabs(a type of fish like a sole) which was perfectly cooked. Crab Louis overall is a good place for lunch but certainly nothing special, if that's what you are looking for.

My husband and I ate lunch here, they told us it was "Happy Hour". We had a crabcake, clam chowder, fish tacos the only thing that was tasty was the clam chowder. The crab cake was dry but the chipotle suace helped the fish tacos were dry too as the fish was over cooked. The "Happy Hour" mimosas were over priced at over $7 a pop for a small portion.

Starving and freezing after whale watching the cheery exterior of Crab Louie's drew us inside. The decor is rather plain & its a lunch spot for sure. It does however overlook the harbor and the sea lions at play were very amusing. The clam chowder is the best on the wharf by far. We had a bowl each with some oyster crackers and calamari.Delicious.
