We stayed here on a trip down route 1 yesterday. This accommodation is on a main road but this couldn't be heard from our room. Lovely owners who more than accommodated our needs. The accommodation is a little tired, but for the price paid I feel this is reasonable. There is Car parking right outside the door and had a lovely lie in as it was nice and quiet! Cable TV was a hit as the other half could catch up on the olympics!

This trip includes a drive up the PCH. We decided to spend two full days so that we could visit the aquarium and a beach in Carmel. I search for access, amenities, and cost. Bayside Inn fit the bill. The room was clean, shower was good, bed was comfortable, and free wifi was adequate. Free breakfast included cereal, muffins, coffee and juice. Thank goodness it was too cold to use their pool, it needs a super cleaning. Another plus, Bayside Inn is in walking distance of decent food. I would stay again if the discounted price popped up again.

The folks who operate this facility are very nice and helpful. It's not their fault that the building and the rooms seem to be on their last legs. Now, if this were a super-budget room, I would have less of a problem with it. But this was close to $200 per night and the room was not as nice as one might find at at Motel 6. The pool was septic and is going to be filled in to make more parking. There is no ice machine although the managers will give you some ice from their supply when they are at the desk. Our two-person room had one queen bed; the sink was next to the bed. The room had undergone some renovation attempts in the past but still falls far short of what one would expect at that location (near the Monterrey Fair Grounds). The value does not compare favorably with the nearby Ramada (had no vacancies) where we usually stay in Monterrey. To tell the truth, this place is ripe and ready for the wrecking ball, in my opinion, and should be rebuilt with some "high tech" features like key cards 21st Century amenities. Every room had a little tray on which stood the ice bucket (remember about the ice? See above). Anyway, one was to take said tray to the managers' office in the a.m. and put one's coffee and muffin on said tray and return to the room. Food not bad -- Costco muffins and acceptable coffee. They certainly made an effort -- painting the room interiors with pleasant color schemes, etc., but there's only so much a can of paint can do, I think. There was an old (very very old) broken down vending machine outside our door with a hole in its front. There are certain expectations based on price range that sometimes are accurate and sometimes are not accurate. At the $200 per night level, one expects a lot more than one gets at this location. Like I said, time to remodel. Unless there were no other choice, I would avoid this place.

Suggestions if you have to stay at this facility: Stay clear of the septic swimming pool and the junk/ broken down / 1960s vending machine. The locks and keys are the cheapest you would find at The Home Depot in 1970, so anybody could have a copy of your room key. Keep valuables in the trunk of your car if you go out. Buy a bag of ice while you are out.

Room tip: Look elsewhere unless everyplace else is booked.

I would say this motel was average, ok for our purpose which was to find (last minute) a place to spend 2 nights on the Monterey peninsula. It was located a bit far away from the Monterey city center, which is ok if you are an enthusiastic walker or if you prefer to drive. Our room (102) was clean and adequate although very small. And a bit old fashioned of course, motel style. The shower pressure wasn't very strong and the shower cabin was quite tiny. Breakfast consisted of snacks, I thought the coffee was fine but didn't care much for the muffins and croissants (but that is due more to personal taste than quality). Overall we felt the week-end rate we paid was crazy expensive in light of what we were getting. Paying the week rate (which was apparently more than half the week-end rate) would have been more appropriate and less painful.

The room was small, one needs to give way to other when walking by. The shower head's holes small like needle, which mean less water and long shower needed. The bed was comfortable, we did had a good night sleep. Breakfast start at 8am which we already on our way to the attractions.
