“A nice experience”
Reviewed November 28, 2013

Stopped by for dinner during our stay in Monterey. It was a really nice cafe, and the food was really good too. A warm atmosphere. It wasn't too expensive, and it was a very enjoyable meal.
Even though we didn't try them, the various treats and pastries on display looked very good.

“We wandered into a great meal!”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

We were in town for a wedding and were going to pick up catered items from Whole Foods for the post-wedding brunch. But the items weren't ready yet so we wandered into town and found this gem, which reminded us of being in Europe!

It took a little bit to place our order, since the barista also was taking the orders. But we weren't disappointed with our food. I had the nice Monterey scramble and my wife had a veggie scramble.

They didn't have decaf coffee going so my wife had an Americana, which consisted of espresso mixed with some very hot water.

The only minus was when we went to get our silverware -- one fork had food stuck to it. Yikes! Otherwise this is a great place to come back to.

“Amazing food and sooo laid back!!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Cafe Trieste was suggested by our hotel receptionist, after we said we needed inexpensive comfort food (after a nightmare of a day!!). We are in our 50s, and Cafe Trieste was mostly occupied by students - but the atmosphere was so laid-back that the "age gap" didn't matter (and we weren't the only oldies eating there). The main meals are mostly pasta and pizza (plus a large range of other snacks, cakes, pastries drinks etc). There is a small range of pasta dishes, and a larger range of pizzas. We ate there on two nights, and can confirm that both pasta and pizza ranges are absolutely scrumptious - beautifully cooked and VERY reasonably priced. The range and quality of the wines (by the glass, and presumably also by the bottle) is very good - and the range of reasonably-priced draught beers made an old man very happy!! The ambience of the cafe is a little "bright" and "basic" but if you want good food and drink, at reasonable prices, served by friendly staff then you won't do better. We wouldn't hesitate to return (time and time again) if we are ever lucky enough to be in Monterey again.

“I can't imagine a more tasty pannini!”
Reviewed October 3, 2013 via mobile

Nice place for lunch-staff is friendly, place is right in the heart of it all in the middle of Alvarado Street. Our panninis were really second to none. Soup was just ok, or I'd have rated them five stars. Price was right-we'll be back!
