This was our first time to stay in this hotel, and we have stayed in several hotels in the Monterey area over the last few years. I would say it was comfortable, clean and centrally located. The manager was very friendly and willing to answer any questions. The hotel was crowded for the Labor Day Weekend. There were only two problems that we had with this hotel: 1) there didn't appear to be enough parking. When we went out for the evening & returned around 11:00 p.m. we found there were no parking places left, except out on the street. With such limited parking, we felt the spaces should be numbered corelating with the hotel room numbers to ensure each guest got one parking space, and 2) Early in the morning when the other guests started running water, the noise from the water pipes was horribly loud in the walls (or ceiling, I'm not sure which). It was such a loud noise and popping & clicking sounds, that it was nearly deafening, and there was no way we could sleep through that noise! This practically ruined our stay, since we went out in the evening to enjoy the night life Monterey had to offer, and some guests started running water as early as 5 am. The second night we used ear plugs hoping to eleviate the noisy pipes issue, but even the ear plugs didn't work. I would say if you are a sound sleeper, you might do well here, but if you are a light sleeper, don't even think about it.
On the plus side, there was execellent water pressure in the shower, however: it was so strong it was downright painful, and there was no way to adjust it, as the shower head was not adjustable to a different type of spray. My husband laughed at me when he heard me yelling ow, ow, ow in the shower, but when he got in, he had the same experience and I heard him yell ouch a few times too. Other than the water pipes and the parking, the hotel would have been a great stay. It was close to the back side of the Del Monte shopping mall, and pretty close to the Fisherman's Wharf/Cannery Row, Aquarium, etc. One other thing I appreciated was that there didn't appear to be an ice machine nazi attitude. Everywhere we've ever stayed, we are forewarned about filling ice chests with the ice. I didn't have to listen to this speil this time, and that was nice. However, I did see another guest in the morning take his ice chest directly to the ice machine & proceed to fill it up. I suppose that would be okay, as long as there was still enough ice for the guests that were staying throughout the day.
I hate to fault this hotel for items that seem to be beyond their control, but I do want to be fair to possible future guests on what to expect. I hope this has been helpful.
