“Great atmosphere”
Reviewed April 29, 2014 via mobile

Great meal and nice atmosphere. It is a historic house and we are in the glasses in patio. We went for a business dinner and we were very pleased. Keep in mind it is a bit pricey but casual as well. The wait staff wears dark shirts, aprons and black jeans. I had the mahi mahi and it was delicious. Someone else had the veal and thought it was very good. I'd pass on dessert. I feel the tiny spot of pistachio and 3 spilt berries was not worth the $10 price tag. My partner got the caramel dessert and it, too, was not very satisfying. I would go back again, just pass on desert.

“Disappointed...”
Reviewed April 27, 2014 via mobile

The ambience of the restaurant delivered as advertised. Warm, earthy tones with exposed wood beams in a rustic, historic house created a relaxing atmosphere. The place was, however, so dark inside that it made it at times difficult to walk around and I saw many customers using their iPhone torches to read the menu! The pre-dinner cocktail was mediocre which should have been warming for the meal to come. The soup was served at such a tongue scalding temperature we had to wait several minutes for it to cool enough to be edible. The entree was the greatest disappointment. The braised veal was a super fatty mushy piece of meat that had no substance to it. It was served alongside undercooked mushrooms. Very disappointed in both the quality of the ingredients and the quality of the execution. My wife had the mahi mahi and was a bit happier but still felt the fish was overly fishy and probably not as fresh as she expected. We ended the meal on a positive note with a "buttered rum". This was a first for me and the combination of the homemade spiced butter with the rum and hot water made for a warming and relaxing close to an otherwise frustrating and disappointing meal. In the balance, I would not recommend you to spend an evening here when there are so many other good options in this price range.

“So Cool”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

The atmosphere in the bar was really cool. We had a drink before dinner, they were very creative and delicious. The food and service were great. We were a little surprised that some fellow diners brought two young children. They were not well-behaved.
Ask for the ghost stories and history of the building. Also, the Russian-style Absinthe is an experience not to be missed. OMG, we had never even heard of this, but they put on quite a show.

Great wine, drinks, atmosphere. Had appetizers: avocado, brioche toast with poached egg. Super friendly service for an up scale place.

“An elegant experience off the row”
Reviewed April 15, 2014 via mobile

What an elegant experience they have crafted at 1833. The setting is a quiet neighborhood off the row, once you step inside the restaurant comes alive, vibrant bar scene with craft cocktails, a collection of warm inviting dining rooms, a glassed in wine cellar and cozy balcony. The food was excellent, inventive and beautifully presented. Found a great half bottle on the list. Even had a guy serenade the place on a bagpipe. It's pretty expensive but I felt worth it and would definitively recommend it.
