This past weekend the Monterey Museum of Art hosted a wonderful event called family day. It was interactive and fun for the whole family. We were started off with a scavenger hunt which encouraged the kids to find different pictures, sculptures, etc... in exchange for a treat when they found all the items. Then we went upstairs to find a room full of kids making sculptures of people out of newspaper and tape. There were volunteers to assist the kids. Then downstairs there was a large room where we all sat around and made our own designs out of clay. It let everyone by creative and the event was FREE! We made sure to make a donation to the museum for putting on this great event but no money was required. Its nice to see organizations who give back to the community and support the growth and development of our children's minds.

This museum has every bit of flower power history and early time history....it is pre Americana and post America.....in here you can visit the 70's and the 60's...and then go on up the stairs and you can experience how it was back in the stone age and into the iron age.....this is a must visit place

I especially like La Mirada, the second of the Monterey Museum's locations. Enjoy the paintings by early California painters. The building itself is noteworthy and givs a sense of early architecture. The docents are particularly helpful and well-trained.

Love the size of this museum in a converted home. The rose garden is fabulous, the art exhibits change but are of good quality. It feels like a retreat from the world.

This isn't going to knock your socks off but it is a nice place to visit for a little R&R from the crowds of Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. Don't miss the sister museum with their beautiful rose garden.
