“High expectations. They delivered.”

This was our second time visiting Hotel Abrego. Our first encounter left us disappointed (Labor Day weekend, lots of people, no hot water, weak WiFi signal). There wasn't much that could be done to solve the problem and we just made do with cold water baths at the end of a long travel day.

To Abrego's credit, we heard from the hotel management within a week of our stay and received a voucher welcoming (daring!) us back for another visit. Our second visit came a year later, on the Thursday before Labor Day weekend. We stayed in Room 1204 and were quite happy with the well-appointed room. Not a complete surprise, though, since the room we stayed in last year was also well-appointed. This year's room, however, had a fireplace and a larger bathroom. The staff also provided us with a crib for our son, which was convenient. The WiFi signal was strong and we had no problems using our laptop.

And our room had hot water. :)

Overall, we had a very good stay at Abrego and would stay with them again. The hotel is easy to get to and is close to the attractions we wanted to visit in Monterey.

PS: We particularly enjoyed a French bakery across the street that we were unable to visit during our first trip (Parker-Lusseau Pastries, closed Sun-Tue).

Stayed here for 2 nights on a tour of California so having stayed in 6 hotels in 2 weeks, I feel it does only justify the 3 stars I have awarded, with my main gripe being with the size of the room and the location of ground floor rooms. Although the room was spotless and a very high standard in decor, with a lovely fireplace, it was rather small, so much so that we had to move furniture so we could find floor space big enough an average sized suitcase laid on it. And as for a 2nd case.....!!! (on the desk in the end!!) The other issue was that our room being on the ground floor (and like all others on that level) meant that anyone walking past (to other rooms or the pool) could see straight into your room if you opened the blind (of which you wanted to so some natural light can come in). There was also a piece on hiding valuables, of which I wonder if it is because there had been a theft
On a plus, staff were courteous, the hotel was spotless and with car parking spaces close to your room.
Can't comment on food although it was reasonably priced. The bar/lounge/restaurant all seemed to be a one, which was a bit strange, not really a restaurant.
However, it was quiet enough on a night, had lovely decor, friendly staff and a nice little hot-tub next to the (smallish) pool.

My dad and I arrived at the Abrego on a Wednesday at around 10:00 am. We decided to take our chances and see if our room was available. I've never had luck with early check in at any hotel, so I was expecting "no" for an answer right away. We walked up to the front desk and were warmly greeted by Dinesh Pal. Not only did he tell us our room was available, but upgraded us to a queen room with fireplace. Dinesh was extremely polite and asked us if we needed anything else. It was apparent that the general manager, Tracy Call, runs a tight ship.

The hotel lobby was very clear and smartly decorated. The variations of earth tones and colors worked well together. There was ample parking in the newly paved parking lot.

The room was equally as clean and smartly decorated. Anytime I enter a hotel room the first thing I check is the bathroom. I'm a stickler for cleanliness. I wasn't disappointed. The entire bathroom was clean from top to bottom. There was ample space for luggage and a small closet to hang up shirts, pants, etc...Another one of my pet peeves is noise, but the well insulated room kept out most of the outside noise.

The hotel is in short walking distance to several restaurants. It's also within close driving distance to Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. I highly suggest you get out and explore a bit. You'll always have your comfortable room at the Abrego to come back to.

There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about my stay at the Abrego. I would definitely stay at the Abrego again.

Hotel is very nice with clean modern rooms and bathroom. Had a lovely small pool but it was too chilly when we visited. The hotel is a walk from the seafront and either a long walk or taxi to cannery row. ( we got trolley busone way and taxi back). There is a cozy restaurant/bar ideal for a glass of wine before bed. Breakfast is served here and is reasonably priced. We decided to have breakfast at the hotel as we wanted to be away early the next morning. However it wasbusy and having waited a good while we still had'nt even been acknowledged! we decided to go elsewhere.

Lovely clean modern luxurious decor. Only here for one night. Wandered around the licality but did not find anywhere we wanted to eat so we dined in the restaurant. Food and service was good, although choice limited. However don't like the casual atmosphere it is like dining in a bar. (For a short time there were a fairly rowdy group of people next to us drinking). Had to pay $1 for washing powder in laundry - felt this was a bit mean as in other hotels it was complimentary. Very noisy music coming from room near us 10 p.m - 10.15 at night. Was going to complain but then it stopped. Also noisy people shouting outside. Don't like the open layout. I would not want to stay here on my own. Rooms are arranged around the car park with a lot of open access. Did not have breakfast but it looked nice.
