The whole place was really clean and everything seems to be very efficient. Absolutely great location. Would stay again and give it a thumbs up. We ate the breakfast served at the hotel and it was good. Very smart menu organization. Finally - a hotel where you can open a window and get fresh air!!

Stayed here for 3 nights during a recent tour of California, the hotel is very nice and tastefully decorated throughout, our room was large and spacious, spotlessly clean with fireplace and chaise longue, the bed was enormous with great bed linen and wonderful pillows, the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is a 20min walk to Fishermans Wharf via Alvarado St. Transit plaza for local buses is 5mins away on Tyler St. We stayed at a further 5 hotels on our tour and this one was the best, Highly recommended.

We stayed here on our honeymoon for a couple of nights, having traveled up from Santa Barbra. When we arrived the check in was quick and easy and the receptionist recommended us a place to eat. Our room was lovely, and they had even put a card, bottle of wine and a box of chocolates in our room to say congratulations on getting married. A nice touch.

The hotel has lots of lovely extras including a cheap coin operated laundry room, swimming pool and spa area. Although we didn't eat at the hotel it looked like they had a good menu and other guests had said it was a good restaurant.

Overall a lovely stay.

Highly recommend this motel. Driving all day, tired, pulled out trip advisor, and found this place. Great rooms, very clean and tidy. Safe. Short walk to downtown and fisherman wharf.
The only downside is the ceilings must be thin. We could hear the people above us walking around.
Highly recommended, just get the upper floor.

We popped into this hotel on our drive from San Francisco to LA. It was very comfortable clean. It was central to everything. We needed to do laundry they have there in house laundry mat, which was a god send when your tired and don't want to spend the rest of your afternoon looking for a laundry mat. The breakfast was great and the price was extremely reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and on arrival we told them it was our 25 th anniversary, they bougt us chocolates and wine. I'd definetly recommend an stay here again.

The room was spacious and all you could want. The front desk staff were very helpful in providing extra coffee for our room. The hotel was surprisingly full, the only one in our two week holiday, which was in September and after labour day, which I think is considered to be out of season.

The only drawback were the guests in the room above who were very heavy footed and up about 6.30am, but I guess you can't blame the hotel for that.

We only stopped the one night before heading back to SF airport, which is within easy distance. We would ceratinly stay there again.

Room Tip: With a room on a higher floor you should not be awakened by early risers who are heavy footed

Let me first say that I really wanted to like Hotel Abrego. When we first arrived, the appearance of the hotel and landscaping is very beautiful. It gives you the feeling of an upscale southwestern style hotel misplaced in a small city. Unfortunately, Abrego resides on the outskirts of downtown Monterey and is a good 15-20 minute walk to the wharf where pretty much everything is located. It should also be noted that there is not a lot to do in the downtown area (one can see and do everything in an afternoon). The majority of shops, restaurants and tourist activities are located at Cannery Row about 2 miles away but it's not ideal to walk since the only route is a typically busy road. I don't really fault Abrego for the location because everything Monterey and Carmel have to offer is still within a convenient and very short drive but sometimes it is nice to just leave the car behind and enjoy walking in the sunshine.

The rooms are perfect for unwinding after a long day of sightseeing. Everything about the room gives one the sense of spa style relaxation: warm earth tones, simple modern design, and the gas fireplace to lure you off to dreamland. In this alone, Abrego offers the perfect getaway for a romantic trip. One minor irritation was the shower head located about 5 feet from the bottom of the tub. Not unusable but a little awkward for anyone 6 foot or taller. The rooms also do not have air conditioning. I don't think temperature is an issue in Monterey since their normal summer highs are only in the 70's but, one of the days we were there, the temperature was around 80f. The only major complaint I had was lack of noise buffering between floors. It's never a good thing to be abruptly woken at 5am to what sounds like people stomping around and the gurgle of water draining through the plumbing above you.

Overall I would recommend Abrego for the shear beauty of the hotel but be forewarned, it is not located within walking distance of most sights and make sure to ask for a room on the top floor.

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor
