“What a lovely surprise!”

We saw this place listed in Frommer's and I called for a room while we were on the road. I told them the price that was listed and even tho they had just quoted us a higher price, they were quick to honor the price from the travel book. This place is beautiful! Asian style decor. Fireplace. Huge flatscreen. Walk in shower big enough for 4! Bed was so comfortable we didn't wake up till room service tried to come into clean the room! Fortunately they have a 12:00 checkout. Location very convenient, near everything. We are staying another night.

Considering price/quality, this hotel certainly ranks in my top 3 for Monterey, CA. I frequently come back to Monterey for business and will always look at this option. Location is quite convenient as you can easily walk to the downtown area. Rooms are modern, clean and quite large. Bathrooms are up-to-date and have all necessary amenities. Most rooms have a fireplace and flat screen TV. Beds are comfortable. I can't personally comment on the breakfast but many of my guests have given excellent feedback on that as well. outside noise could be an issue if you're light sleeper, since it is situated in a busier section of Monterey (busy is relative in this part of the world).

Stayed for one night in April after four nights in a dump in San Francisco. We wished we could have stayed longer as our room was modern and clean and tastefully furnished with safe, fridge and brewing facilities. The decor throughout was really nice. We found the staff helpful and friendly and we enjoyed a lovely four course evening meal for $23 each plus tax. Buffet breakfast was excellent as well at $9.95 each plus tax and included juices and coffee.

We were there with a group and everyone was happy.

Rooms were well appointed and very clean. Staff was exceptionally helpful.

Location is actually very convenient as you can walk to the usual tourist sites and also get out of town in any direction pretty quickly.

We did not actually eat there as there are so many local cafes, we just didn't have time. They do have a nice little bistro in the lobby and the folks there looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Room Tip: The rooms on Fremont street in the main busy are noisy during the day (must be a firehouse nearby) b...

Arrived frustrated as directions are not helpful and took us half an hour to finally find it. In the middle of two busy roads, but room reasonably quiet once we were there. Reception were fine and room was spacious and clean. Bed very comfortable, nice bathroom with good shower. Short walk to good restaurants.

Had breakfast, service was very disengaged - waitress didn't actually listen to answers to her questions (had to go over to her with glasses in hand to finally get the juice we'd asked twice for).

Only stayed one night, and did't like Monterey all that much - but hotel lived up to expectation.

Thank you for tasking the time to give us your feedback - I do apologize that our breakfast server was not "fully engaged" in server duties.

Could have been a good experience if not for the noise. We were on the second floor, and we could hear our upstairs neighbors all night long. It's not as though they were noisy verbally, but I could hear them every time they walked across the floor (which was a lot, especially in the early morning). And every time they flushed their toilet, the water must've gone rushing right by our heads; it was so loud, I almost felt as though I was going to have a shower raining down on me. Anyway, we have to fault the construction design for this. I felt as though I were in an old house where you can hear everyone's whereabouts. On night two, we wore earplugs, and that definitely helped.

Also, there was no ventilation system at all in the room. I understand that they don't need A/C in such a moderate climate, but being able to circulate the air in the room would've been nice to keep it from getting stuffy. The only options were the gas fireplace for heat or opening the sliding door for air. Hmmm... We slept with the door open.

The decor was nice, and we loved the location. It was about a 15-20 minute walk down to the wharf.

The front desk gal could use some polish, or perhaps how she treated us stems from their policy? We checked in a little early (2:00pm). Check-in time is about 3:00pm in most hotels. We were told that check-in was 4:00pm and that they didn't have our room ready for us yet. There wasn't anything special about our room: it was a non-smoking king. So it's hard to believe that they didn't have any of those cleaned and ready to go at 2pm on a Friday. Should be a 1st come/1st serve process, but we had pre-paid on Expedia.com, and we definitely felt that we were being treated as second-class citizens.

I've seen other glowing reviews for Hotel Abrego, so it does make me wonder if we were put in a less desirable room/part of the hotel because of this. Perhaps it's just our imagination about that, but the front desk clerk definitely left us feeling a little sour.

My family and I were in the Monterey area finalizing wedding details for my summer wedding, and we had already blocked rooms with Hotel Abrego for our guests at the wedding. We thought we would get a sneak peek of where everyone would be staying later in the summer. Hotel Abrego was WONDERFUL! Not only is the price right, but it is clean, new and beautifully designed inside. We arrived late (11pm) after meeting with our photographer in San Francisco, and the night clerk was waiting for us, knew us by name, and helped us get all settled. The next morning, Michelle who oversees all the room blocking met me for breakfast, and went over all the details for our upcoming wedding. The staff was great, the beds were really comfortable, and we loved every minute of our stay. Can't wait to go back for our wedding!

Room Tip: Be sure to request the main building! It was gorgeous, and I did not see the other buildings, so can...
