“A reasonable hotel”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

We have stayed at the hotel twice. While it worked out just fine, am not eager to go back. I would certainly recommend a 'view' room, and ask for a golf course view if you don't get it up front. All rooms are certainly not made equal at this hotel. Unless you are happy, check your choices before your settle! Most importantly - my out of state friends had a memorable stay.

Room Tip: Certainly the golf course view

It is quiet, except for the golfers yelling, "Fore!"
It is calm, except when hosting a convention of drummers.
It has Monterey's finest hotel staff. Always!
The grounds are immaculate, as you would expect in Monterey.
It's close to everything, except Heart Castle.
...and if you drive straight out the hotel entrance down toward the bay, you will drive right in to one of the wackiest collection of Mexican art in California!
Add that it's clean, carefully maintained, and able to boast about the excellent meals available at the restaurants, and you have one of the nicer "affordable" stays available in California.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room that overlooks the golf course. Best views, especially in the early morning.

Dear MountainFriendsPhoto,

Thank you for such a nice recommendation! I am looking forward to sharing your kind words with our teams, especially our landscaping team who works very hard to keep the property looking “immaculate” and our culinary team who take pride in the “excellent meals” they prepare.

Please come back and visit us again soon!

All the best,
Steve

We loved it and for the price comparison I give a 5 and for others
Still they get 5
Make sure to get the room with the golf view and ballcony
We even got special with breakfast in morning
That was a $20.00 breakfast
Which was included in our package

The Hyatt Regency offers a quiet peaceful hotel nearby all the action of Monterey. The rooms facing the golf course are beautiful. The spa and exercise facilities are excellent. The breakfast buffet offers everything. The only downside is that the rooms are in a row of separate buildings and though the walkway is covered, it can be a pretty chilly walk in December!

Room Tip: The golf course rooms offer a lovely view.

“Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa on Del Monte Golf Course elevates luxury accommodation to a new level”… so says their home page on their website. I must have stayed at different Hyatt Regency in Monterey. Because once you get past the lobby, which in all honesty is nice and somewhat modern, the rooms are extremely dated and shabby. My room, while huge, felt like it had been built in the 1980’s and not updated since. Luckily we were there during the winter season, because the rooms do not have air conditioning; at least my room did not. A sign next to the thermostat instructs you to open your patio door to cool the room down… Even the basics, like the towels and linens, were old and dingy and the carpets were stained. Water pressure in the shower was non-existent (which, I’ll give them, might have been caused by the drought situation in CA)

The condition of the rooms was especially disappointing considering the exorbitant rates we paid. I was there for a conference and a number of people were complaining of the condition of their rooms. Other guests of the conference chose to stay at luxury hotel on Canary Row, and not only paid less for their rooms, but also had the benefit of being downtown and within walking distance of all the Monterey attractions (keep in mind, the Hyatt Regency is outside of the downtown area and you’ll need a car to get around).

Usually Hyatt Regency is an outstanding brand and I’ve stayed at a number of their properties and really liked them. Unfortunately, this property was a huge disappointment.

We spent six nights at the Monterey Hyatt Regency at the end of December, 2013 and into January, 2014. The prime attraction for us was a regional bridge tournament sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League. This is an old and very large hotel, with rooms spread out over many buildings. It is not a luxury hotel, but it is very good in its class, and the hotel staff did everything to make our stay highly pleasurable. We arrived on our 56th wedding anniversary, and the front desk upgraded our room to one overlooking the golf course, which we greatly appreciated.

Parking can be a problem, but it is not really a problem because the hotel provides free valet parking service. There is no charge to hotel guests for parking. No restaurants except for the hotel restaurants are within walking distance. The hotel provides free shuttle service to downtown Monterey, and, of course, one can drive oneself there. The hotel food was more than adequate. We ate in the Fireside Lounge several times, in the sports bar once, and in the formal dining room three times. We were never disappointed. Although we normally don’t eat big breakfasts, we really liked the breakfasts in the formal dining room. My wife went for the cafeteria-style offerings, and I had pancakes with maple syrup which were absolutely delicious.

The hotel is only a few miles from Carmel, and a visit to this quaint tourist town is well worthwhile.

We greatly enjoyed the food arrangements at the convention center for the bridge players, which included ample sandwiches and other food for very low prices. Unlike bridge tournaments we have played in from all over the United States, we were able to charge the food we purchased in the convention center to our room.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency and we would certainly stay here again if we come back to play bridge in a future year.

I stayed here with my entire family for a special vacation. We all had a great experience. The rooms were very comfortable and private. The hotel had many great options for running and walking. The swimming pool and hot tub was an added bonus. Breakfast was expensive but well worth it. All in all, this hyatt worked great for a family with diverse needs. Highly recommended.
